It's fair enough to have a go at his bowling, but you can hardly blame his injury on being "not there mentally". If that's the case, then he hasn't had his focus right for the past decade (and for that matter, neither did Shane Bond). As for other allrounders, care to name a few?Not going to bother with the rest of the game. What was that in the field? Oram has said on cricinfo he would rather be at home with his kid, and he bowled a ton of extras and injured himself today, suggesting he isn't quite there mentally. I'm sure we have a ton of allrounders who would love a crack in his place.
Massive exaggeration. More or less it's a mix of the world cup ODI side and the test side that beat Australia. Hardly stuffed full of rubbish. It's fair enough to have a go at his bowling, but you can hardly blame his injury on being "not there mentally". Anyway, no surprises today, this is a really awful New Zealand team, stuffed full of rubbish from top to bottom. I wouldn't be too surprised if we don't win a game all tour, especially if Oram and Taylor are missing for a decent portion of it.
It bears a resemblance to the world cup side, but has been stripped of much of the quality and experience that enabled that team's (moderate) success.Massive exaggeration. More or less it's a mix of the world cup ODI side and the test side that beat Australia. Hardly stuffed full of rubbish.
Bracewell is a pretty complete bowler tbh, and Southee is fine in limited overs from what I remember of last season and the world cup.It bears a resemblance to the world cup side, but has been stripped of much of the quality and experience that enabled that team's (moderate) success.
Vettori and Styris are gone. Ryder has self imploded and who knows when he'll be back. Southee is just rubbish. Oram is always injured, and even Reliable Kyle doesn't seem that effective anymore. Other members of the team that survived the world cup, Guptill, Bracewell and NcCullum in particular, remain limited cricketers and not (yet at least) the types that you can rely upon for match winning performances. Taylor and McCullum are good limited overs players, and Williamson will be too in a couple of years, but they aren't going to win many games on their own.
You're probably right, I'm too hard on him. He did bowl really well for half an hour against Australia last year.It wouldn't be a New Zealand tour thread without Bahnz bashing Southee.
A season that never got going because of injury, yeah let's hold it against him, completely ignore the success of the season before too huh. You're probably right, I'm too hard on him. He did bowl really well for half an hour against Australia last year.
Ehhh, in ODI's at least I think they're a distinctly better side, and in home conditions will be much too strong. The tests could be interesting, because their batting is just so flakey, but I think ours is even flakier and in Roach the Windies have a bowler who could rip us apart.Bracewell is a pretty complete bowler tbh, and Southee is fine in limited overs from what I remember of last season and the world cup.
In any case, you've just admitted there that the side isn't rubbish, even if it was accidentally.
I think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill here. We lost that game because bowlers who have previously shown the ability to at least bowl in a straight line couldn't do that, and the better spinner of the two we played got injured, meaning we needed to bowl Nicol to Gayle on a postage stamp. Oram has always been an awful 20/20 bowler as well. Bracewell and Southee weren't able to cover the others today, so the score was a blow out.
The rest can be attributed to it being our first match back and more importantly, a good performance from a keyed in Windies unit who have clearly benefitted from tough series against Australia and England.
We'll spend much of the second 20/20 getting up to speed with international cricket again but we'l be fine by the ODI series and if we don't win a single game on tour with our best side as you predict, I'll flounce pretty hard. They're the Windies ffs. One mystery spinner with all hype and no results and we've got the second coming of Murali here. They're our equals, and the tour will show this to be true.
They might be our equals if we were at home, but in the Caribbean they're massive favourites imo. Har, good one. Southee missed one test at the start of the season, and even he admitted that his poor performances were down to his bowling action falling to bits.A season that never got going because of injury, yeah let's hold it against him, completely ignore the success of the season before too huh.
