Very happy for the west indies here. Up for it today and we did not come close. I'd like lockie to get back to his top pace pretty soon now, he has been off the standards pace-wise since his return. Please get back to 148 and above please. We are going to aus to play t20s in a world tourney soon. We need this from him. Looks like he has been on cruise control speed bowling 139-145 mostly. Enough of the slowies and variations for now.

OK, so it's a wearing/old pitch, they want to play 3 spinners. Fair enough. Hate the Santner at 3 thing though, I can't remember a time we threw someone up and it ended up being a viable solution.
Does D Mitchell the T20I opener count?

At the time, I remember thinking, and probably wrote on here, that it was a stupid tactic. But ....

Totally forgot Jimmy, Darryl and Phillips can all bowl. Kane uses then so sparingly can't even remember these guys bowl.

All in all reasonable outing. Expected West Indies to be much more competitive than win a solitary game.

The first game wasn't all that close. Second west indies didn't even arrive. The third we got smashed quite comfortably.

Lot of good things for us. Conway has looked in good touch, Phillips was outstanding, Darryl quite good too and Kane showed he's got it still in this format. Neesham has plenty to offer.

Lockie and Santner solid as usual, Bracewell surprisingly has been very good and continued good form with the ball. Southee is a bit of a worry. Guptill didn't look his old self. Don't want to write him off but likely he's going to be done this summer.
I'm starting to lean a bit towards Bracewell over Sodhi now tbh. Sodhi always gets fluke wickets but has tons of exp so he has that at least. He was hammered all 3 games here too. Southee bowling in aus is something you never wanna see and he was smashed all 3 games here. Santner is quality, barely has a bad game. Boult I believe will be back in form soon...too much class. Lockie was OK. Expect him to be back too.

Oh yeah, of course it does.

But now we've abandoned it? Couple of low innings' in India, and the England semi-final is a distant memory.

Bracewell definitely a lock in for t20s. CDG will be back for the t20 wc so we'll have another option if need be. Bracewell can bat as good as anyone in the top order I think in t20s. One day and red ball obviously not my preference. If he has to bowl 10 overs and bat with different gears he'll probably struggle. Definitely a good option for t20s for a year or two at least

Thought cdg's time with the t20 squad was done long ago tbh

What happens to Chapman? Just stays in the squad, ages and retires I guess. Hasn't done all that bad really.
Can't see him taking out either of Phillips, mitchell, conway, allen or kane. Gup definitely. He's on his last legs. Won't do anything of note against a big team.

I think CDG will be backed for the t20 WC as a backup for Neesham. Nathan Smith is the only other I could think can come in place of Neesham but he's not playing club cricket in UK as he's injured and likely out for the season. Chapman will be there but like you said he'll only be an injury cover. Finn Allen will be a cover for Guptill or Conway as I see it. May not get many games but he'll be in the squad.

Santner at 3 makes zero sense to me - he's not even an especially destructive lower order hitter. All of Williamson, Mitchell, Phillips, Neesham & Bracewell typically bat above him because... they're just better in all ways.

What are we thinking for the ODI XI?

Guptill
Allen
Williamson
Conway
Latham (wk)
Phillips
Neesham
Santner
Sears
Ferguson
Boult

Tbh I dont think Latham's spot is a lock these days although he's probably a lock for the 2023 WC being that it's in India.

Don't think they are going to play Sears, he's there as a replacement for Henry and Tickener couldn't travel. Pretty much I think Allen and Sears are there as cover.

There's no way they are going to not play Southee.

I'd be very surprised if Mitchell doesn't play. He hasn't been dismissed yet

Do you ever get the sense your own team is trolling you? I finally lost patience and didn't bother watching so they select a reasonable bowling attack and win. Naturally.

Looking at the batting lineup though we would have lost if NZ dismissed King early basically.

Looks close to the best team except you forgot Mitchell, he's so good he doesn't even have an average yet.
Sears in for Southee may not be best, but great if they try the move, sadly Timmy hasn't been worth a meat pie of late.
Bracewell a bit hard done by, after all he did pull a rabbit out when we we're doomed and 100/1 outsiders to beat Ireland.
Chapman appears in good form but just can't squeeze in, he's next in line though.
