So when does the third Test start?

Honest question, I'm back in the country tomorrow and miss SKY like I miss fair and reasoned discussion.
It starts Friday morning at 2am NZ time. Despite being slightly gutted about the early start time, I'm really looking forward to this, as I finally have an opportunity to watch some of it.

The team Bahnz listed is the strongest possible XI from our squad, but realistically I think they'll only bring in Wagner for Sodhi. Barbados might help out the quick bowlers a little bit more than what we had in Trinidad and Jamaica.

I'll let you know after this series.
FMD. So you jumped up and down before the series started refusing to believe Southee was the better bowler between he and Roach because of an inferior career record. Nevermind Southee's oustanding form over the past two years, career records meant everything. Yet here you are, two weeks later, stating the exact opposite. You won't take two years of work but you'll take one series?

Edit: Not even that. You said you'll stick with Taylor over Boult before the series even started. That's my main argument. You don't like people saying they would take Taylor over Chanderpaul, or Williamson over Bravo, all laughable in your opinion. But it's fine for you to take a bowler that had 80 odd wickets @ 35 over one that had 80 odd @ 26.

No i'm keen to get this thread back on track and filled with lively, positive debates...but as the quote above from Howsie proves i didn't say Roach and Taylor were "better" then Southee and Boult...it's that simple.
You've said it loads of times, stop lying.

BTW, that would just be my XI. If the pitch is like the first two, then NZ will name an unchanged squad. If it has a bit more life in it, as a few people are suggesting it might, then I suspect NZ will play

Rutherford, Latham, Williamson, Taylor, McCullum, Neesham, Watling, Southee, Craig/Sodhi, Wagner, Boult

I could really see the Craig/Sodhi battle going either way. Statistically you could argue that Sodhi really hasn't done any worse than Craig as a bowler, and he is NZ cricket's annointed one in the spin bowling department. However, anyone with a brain could see that Craig has been bowling - on average - far better, and offers the best option for supporting a 3-seamer attack.

Tbh if one bowler has been doing well over the "last two years"..then an opposition bowler who's been out for five years comes back and does better (thus far) in a series...what does that tell you about the two bowlers?

Perhaps I don't have a brain because I certainly didn't see that. Craig outbowled Sodhi in the first test no doubt, he was absolutely rubbish in the second test though. He didn't even look like taking a wicket, while at the same time was getting bashed all around the park. I agree with you, that if New Zealand had a three man seam attack he might be the best option, but we don't, we also have Neesham. Four seamers, plus Williamson. I really don't see the need for Craig.

That'll be to do with Sodhi's wholly unproven action mechanics delivering 7/700 versus top 6 batsmen in his career so far, I suspect. 7/700.

Thanks mate - same here. Flight arrives at midnight, home by 1ish, Allpress coffee and on the couch for 2am. Ideal.

Perhaps I'm biased by the putrid filth I watched Sodhi bowl at the end of the 2nd test (full toss, off side long hop, full toss, leg side long hop, leg stump half volley, long hop etc.), and the dropped chances off Craig's bowling in the 1st innings, but I still consider Craig as having bowled better in that test despite his relatively poor figures. Not that he bowled particularly well either.

As for Neesham - come off it. Neesham has arguably been the worst bowler on either side in this series, and has failed both as a wicket taker and as a pressure builder in each of his 3 tests so far. New Zealand shouldn't be relying on him to bowl more than 6 or 7 overs a day.

Really, you actually believe Craig outbowled Sodhi in that second test? If you want to hold that second innings against him fair enough (I mean what do you expect against Gayle hitting out like that) but even then Sodhi still comprehensively outbowled him IMO. Craig was literally made to look like a part timer during the first innings, the Windies milked him as easily as the liked. Sodhi whilst still bowling a lot of crap managed to pick up four proper wickets, three being top order bats. Like I said, with three seamers plus a proper all rounder in Neesham I'll take him everyday of the week thanks.
