*Official* New Zealand in Sri Lanka

Massive late inswinger from Obrain just about gets a wicket. Bowl more of those maaaate.

The Brain appeals while the batsman runs down the pitch holding the bat to the umpire indicating that he got an inside edge, and not to worry about having to make a decision.

I was kind of in favour of playing Tuffey ahead of Martin today. I'm glad they picked Martin. It's like he's bowling on a different pitch to everyone else.

Christ how poorly has Jetan Patel bowled. Hyped himself up all week and has really failed to get his **** sorted, plus sloppy in the field.

That sounded bad aye.

He is getting a bit of turn. Hasn't bowled well though. But O'Brien has been the real shocker IMO.

Ball 6 of 6 from Jetans last over, where each delivery was pretty much the same: "Well bowled Dave! That's it!"

Flat, fast and zero spin.

Why was Patel bowling darts?

Understandable with Vettori but you don't want your offie bowling flat quick non-breaks.

Poor bowling from the New Zealanders. Martin looked good but the rest were not a threat at all. Great opportunity for Vettori to show his 'class' but he only has an arm ball.

Imperative that these two did contribute as Sri Lanka have a very long tail.

As for the bowling, spot the shocking early season rustiness...

Was also in favour of Tuffey ahead of Martin, and tbh, might have to switch the to O'Brien if he keeps doing that. Or if Patel is ineffective, might as well use four seamers.

Still think it should have been an attack of Martin-(Tuffey/O'Brien)-Franklin-Vettori-Patel
But from memory you picked both Tuffey & O'Brien ahead of Martin just a couple of days ago, didn't you? Would dig it up, but can't be arsed

Yeah but Martin did better in the tour match didn't he? Martin + O'Brien = same bowling.

Pick one on form.

Maybe the glasstop turner couldn't turn it, or perhaps (shock horror), the Lankins are too good against this 'spin' attack.

What's worse -

line and length bowling (Oram) with a couple of "quickies" (Martin and Obrain) who get stuff all out of the pitch, followed up by two non spinning spin bowlers, to contain a soon to be out of reach test match?

or,

same as above but replace one of the "quickies" with a misguided scud bowler in the attempt to try force the batsman to alter their natural game?

NZ batsmen aren't good enough to draw a game which their bowlers have bowled out of their reach. And if the batsmen know the bowlers will very very very rarely put them into a position to actually win the game - what mindset are the batsmen going to adopt for the majority of their test careers?

The test team, must certainly know they have the remotest of remote chances to win a test match let alone a series. This must surely affect their preparation. If Hadlees prediction, that 20/20 will ruin test match cricket is exagerated, he's most definitely on the mark relating it to the BC's.

Picking Jayawardene to score a hundred TBH - he always seems to do well against us.
Sad but true. Jayawardene is underrated IMO. Maybe because he goes through troughs where he's abysmal. Comfortingly I also picked Timmy Mac for a century - it's destiny .

So all in all a terrible day in the conditions that will probably favour us the most of the entire series. Wonder what would have happened if we'd batted first.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. That was painful, my god that was just sow bad. Patel was rubbish tbh, talked himself up too. O'Brien was shocking, Vettori should of yanked him earlier. Oram better score some runs because Ryder is pretty much as good as him with the ball.

Against Pak I would go with (I know, I know way too early)

6.Batsmen
7.McCullum
8.Vettori
9.Fast bowler, actual pace. Bond probably
10.Tuffey
11.O'Brien/Martin

One of them will be gone by the time the Aussie's a finished with us.

Then by this time next year hopefully Southee has gotten his fat ass fit, McGlenaghan (SP) is bowling decently (Key term decently). Boult's actually playing, Nathula (SP) is bowling well. Man, our bowling just sucks.
