More of a concern that Hopkins is playing as a specialist bat, IMO. Only five bowling options in the side, too, unless you count Taylor.

Two spinners in a four-man attack in ODIs on South African pitches would be pretty ridiculous from where I sit, but I think Patel would offer more to the team than Hopkins.
I'd say Styris will bowl a full 10 if possible but if he's expensive then Taylor will probably roll his arm over for a few.

Patel>Martin, even in South African conditions.

Why do we need 2 keepers when they could have taken a better specialist batsmen like Ryder for example?
Ryder's just as poor at limited overs cricket. But Bracewell wants to select McCullum purely as an opening batsmen, which is just plain wrong.

Good old Bracewell.. he chooses an opening batsman (how)
in the side and then chucks Vincent and McCullum in to open ,, either one would have a better chance down the order and Hows only a stopgap measure so make him open.....

Not keen to seen McCullum opening. Will be interested to see where Sinclair comes in, surely Styris will bat at four so five at earliest? I'd have prefered How and Vincent to open, with Sinclair at three.

SA on top atm, Pollock 0/8 from 7 overs.

Out of interest, when did McCullum get the tattoo on his right arm? I haven't noticed it before TBH.

He has had it for a few years I think, Somerset. Here's a pic

Refers to being the 126th Kiwi to represent New Zealand in one-dayers and so on, or something

They're taking this early preservation of wickets thing a bit far aren't they? How now 8 off 30 with a strike rate of 26.66 but at least McCullum is still there and can accelerate at any stage

Agreed re. the slowness but at least How has looked solid enough so far (bar the suicide run), something M.Papps never showed during the test series.

Yeah, but he (How) needs to be looking to turn the strike over a bit more. I really hope McCullum can get a big one here today and start performing as a OD opener.
