How much do you reckon they need? Hopefully they'll be able to get around 170-200, which, if the pitch keeps playing as it has been, should be a handful.

I'm not able to watch this on tv but according to cricinfo and the forum it seems there have been an almost laughable number of bad umpiring decisions this game. I don't know if these are two of the better umpires around at the me - with Asoka 'I give every third appeal out' de Silva and Darryl 'If I ever had it I've lost it' Hair. Most of the decisions seems to have gone against the batsmen too, which certainly doesn't help when the pitch is difficult enough as it is.

I suppose so far the bad decisions have been fairly evenly distributed between the teams, providing saffers get the average one or two in their next innings.

Exactly why did they allow De Silva back in the elite panel? If he were a football ref he'd be dead by now.
Yeah he got kicked off after the last time he adjudicated NZ vs Saffies I think. I seem to remember him umpiring with Aleem Dar (who was new then). Asoka added a distinct element of randomness to the game, to put it nicely.

I still think they should set it up so that the visiting side always gets to choose if they bat or bowl.
That takes a whole team strategy out of the equation though.

Its good to see the kiwis showing a bit more spine yesterday despite a couple of dodgy descisions. It looks like the pitch is improving for batting however and South Africa may well be put in to bat when its playing at its best. I think a 250 lead will make for an interesting contest....even though thats still some 100 runs away.

One could argue that it was a couple of dodgy decisions that put them in place to show some spine.

65%/35% in SAF's favour currently IMO.

I'd much rather we only make another 50 runs and get to have a crack at them in the first session when there's the most movement around. Without Bond, it's going to take a awful lot to get another 10 wickets, even on this pitch.

If we score say another 100 runs which would probably take the whole first session at least, South Africa will have it easier in batting in the 2nd & 3rd sessions when we've seen less movement.

South Africa to win by 5 wickets is my pick.

Yes NZ did get a couple in their favour in the SAF innings (Boucher, Hall), but that is against the bad ones NZ got in the first innings (Fleming, Oram), and then there was McCullum in the second innings.

Oh well... hopefully the umpires don't influence the result too much further tonight... and the team that plays the best will win.

Geez that ball from Ntini kept low, haven't seen alot of that on this pitch
How is the pitch playing? I mean, is it the pitch that's caused these scores, or just the bowlers?
