280 was a decent effort considering India lost wickets all the way through. But yeah, Dhoni struggled badly today trying to up the tempo from a decent-ish platform and it was entirely predictable that he'd get a tortuous 20 or so and then get out.

NZ have really batted well, all credit to these two. And don't forget Boult and Santner's efforts with the ball earlier.

India have struggled to go really big recently in ODIs imo

felt like against us in our backyard last time Sharma and Kohli would bop a few sixes and make it seem like they were in a t20 for that brief moment yet their totals ended up around 300 (when they could have been 350).

I think Dhoni's a big reason for this. Can't strike it too much over 100 anymore. Pandya obviously can fix this problem but eh can't rely on one bloke to slog at the death. Also Rohit is good at one awesome shot in between a whole lot of dots. Kohli obviously awesome at ODIs but needs better partners
True to an extent, but tbf they hit 375 like 5 odis ago. Also been chasing a lot.

I'm loving Munro opening and Latham at 5. Taylor and Latham make such a great batting combo for those middle overs.

We just need to find a decent number 6.

Yeah look these two batsmen need to improve their fitness. I know it may be harsh, they're doing well but if you're going to be playing in India you need to have this sorted.

Bit more sympathy for Latham since he kept as well.

Harsh. Taylor's an old man and Latham kept wicket.

Nah it's not good enough.

Latham adding a reverse sweep to his arsenal is excellent. Other NZ batsmen should take note - particularly someone like Corey Anderson.

This is now the highest 4th wicket partnership for NZ in ODIs.

previous best was 191 between Jesse Ryder and Corey Anderson...in a match where the record for the fastest ODI century was eclipsed by Anderson.

This will be a memorable partnership. Latham is pure class against spin. I'm starting to like the guy.

Haven't seen a quality partnership like that for a while. We didn't even bowl poorly, at most you can say we had no idea how to stop Latham sweeping but it's a shot that when played well, gives you very few options as a spinner and captain.

Exactly. In fact, this kind of bowling from Kuldeep and Chahal have won us matches against Australia from far more tricky situations. Ross' experience and Latham's class made this a sublime partnership - old school ODI type

Number 4 is a far more concerning area than Dhoni. I'm very disappointed with the way management is handling KL Rahul for ODIs so far.

Well, is Ross really ever going to improve while Nandos operates in the country?

Latham can take a leaf out of Warner's book, bloke was borderline obese before coming back looking like a greyhound in 2014 and has never gone back.
