***Official*** New Zealand in India ODIs/T20Is 2017

Started watching highlights and the first thing I saw was Santner drop another catch - think it's time to move him to the outfield plz. Southee dropping a catch shortly afterwards didn't improve the situation.

Sodhi bowling that well really suggests to me that he should have played, if not in the first ODI then at least in the second and/or third, most likely in place of Milne. Those pitches perhaps gave less assistance to spinners but he's really been pretty good for NZ in recent times.

India miles too good. Special mention of how good they are at bowling yorkers at the end, here and also in the ODI series, especially Bumrah.

And yeah, Williamson, Latham and Nicholls all in the side is far too much cake. With Latham in great form they're probably reluctant to replace him with Phillips as keeper-batsman. So just bring in Phillips for Nicholls please.

Lastly, it's about time Guptill scored some runs - was amazing last season but I don't think he's passed thirty odd since the Champions Trophy.

But Larsen said Sodhi's fitness levels need work, you see. De Grandhomme can keep vomiting on the pitch all he wants, but it's exclusively short games at night for Sodhi.

I like the current NZ ODI batting line up. People are just too used to Guptill pulling the weight of two people and this series he misfired completely

Nehra Ji - Not a great cricketer by any means, but always played with a smile and unlike the majority of Indian bowlers, never gave up on pace. Good to see him leave with respect and the smile intact.

Will always have that 6-23 anyway.
Respect for constantly coming back from the dozens of injuries he's had over the years. One of the few Indian cricketers of that era that really prioritised fitness as well.

Hilarious dude too, should do hindi commentary.

What do people think of Axar Patel? Seems to have pretty good numbers in the opportunities he has got and is among top 10 ODI bowlers (surprise, surprise!). But I can't really remember when he turned a game on its head. With so many spin options around, what does he bring to the table to be given so many opportunities? Doesn't take heaps of wickets like Kuldeep and Chahal can. Doesn't bring the same batting ability that Jadeja and Ashwin do.

Well he's clearly ahead of Jadeja and Ashwin imo. He's a very smart bowler. Notice how he gave the NZ batsmen absolutely no pace yesterday as soon as they started itching for the big shots.

I'd still play Kuldeep/Chahal over him though for the off/legbreak combo and because they seem like they'll stand a better chance overseas.

Axar did indeed bowl well. Does he do enough to cover the batting edge that Jadeja and Ashwin have? And the experience those 2 have? Where I am coming from is is he part of our 2019 plans to be getting those opportunities ahead of 4 other spin options?

And agree on playing Kuldeep/Chahal ahead of Axar.

Yeah I'm always on about how Axe's batting is a myth, but I don't think he really offers significantly less with the bat in ODIs than Ashwin, unless you wanted them to bat in the top five or something (in which case you'd have much bigger problems to worry about..).

I am convinced that Axar is going to single handedly lose India a fairly important game. Spinners of his ilk can't do much once the batsman gets on top. Additionally, there's no reason for Ashwin to be in the side because -
1. We need him for the tests far more than we do for LOIs.
2. It seems that the Quality of his LOI bowling + Quality of his Test bowling is a constant, whenever he improves in one, the other goes down a few notches.

Jadeja should always be in our final 15, never give him a game, but always replace one of the guys with him, when we are fielding.

Agreed with everything except the last line. Let him play FC over being in the LO squad for fielding. There must be other players less valuable who can fulfill that role.

I'd almost be keen to see this line up to remove the "cake" from the middle order

Guptill
Munro
Phillips
Williamson
Latham
Bruce
CdG
Santner
Sodhi
Southee
Boult

Why not stick with the top 4 they have established atm and have Phillips/Bruce at 5/6?

T20s are usually won by the top order, so it makes sense to put the best 4 there. Can't say I've seen much (or anything actually) of Phillips or Bruce though so if there's something to work with there then maybe you have a point.

Well I would argue and say the top 4 isnt established really... Up until this series it's been Guptill/Williamson opening with Munro at 3.

Phillips should be an automatic pick over Nicholls imo, Phillips leading run scorer in last season's super smash and also has CPL experience. Probably gonna become a T20 specialist first anyway. Bruce has been not too bad at domestic level but him and Nicholls are pretty much interchangeable. Could even go back to having Taylor in there maybe for the experience (as long as he brings the slog sweep back!)
