Boult has bowled beautifully this spell tho.
What was his opening spell like? Watched the second new ball spell, Boult is not only a skillful bowler but gee he's intelligent with it as well. Absolute pleasure to watch in Test cricket when he's on, in the way he works over batsmen.

Interesting score. It's difficult to gauge how good it is.

Anyhoo, I'd love to see a long Williamson/Taylor partnership.

Boult's undoubtedly been improving as the year has gone on. His pace today, at least through the first two sessions, was good and he was really using his outswinger with great confidence. Still lacking the accuracy that made him such a threat in 14/15, but positive signs that he's getting there.

People having a go at Kohli and rightly so, but you've also gotta give credit to Wags. His accuracy and energy with the bouncer, delivered from completely different angles, is really impressive.

Santner getting the headlines today, but I thought he and Sodhi still bowled too many loose balls. Craig was the real MVP imo apart from the weird over before tea.

Wagner always going to be a chance bowling bouncers at batsmen that just absolutely have to prove they're the big man and play the hook shot. You wouldn't see Pujara or Williamson fall for that - they'll just duck and then hit your next half volley for four. But Kohli is one ego that is ripe to target like that.

I only saw his third spell. Pace good, accuracy on spot, getting swing, rolling his fingers over the ball once in a while and getting it to jag off the pitch. Good stuff.

That's a good point I reckon. Not that everyone who gets out to Wagner does so on ego but it's why he took wickets against Australia and again with Kohli today. They see a guy who's not usually hitting 140km/ph on the speed gun and think this guy is a bit of me. Which is ridiculous, given Wagner's not really likely to get you out any other way. Wagner really gets into duels with people, it's bloody enthralling Test cricket. When he's got the nut in hand there's very seldom any level of boredom.

I used to bag the bloke but happy to eat all the humble pie I'm dished up, I love watching him bowl now. He's not particularly skillful in a Sir Richard sort of context but man does he compete and create a bit of excitement.

Agree with all that. It's quite likely that opposing teams will start to identify that not getting into the battle with Wagner leaves him with far fewer ways to get them out, but there will also always be the batsmen that can't help themselves.

Also, his bouncers are genuinely accurate these days - a lot are on target, chin height and get up higher than expected. Wasn't long ago that 'short ball' from Wagner meant short and wide, or otherwise missing the mark in some way, but now they are usually on target.

Watling and Craig great value as per usual. Though probably a better bet as top 3 scorers in both cases.

Not Terrible
More chance of Santner, as ND's best wristy manipulator of spin, top scoring. Apparently Howsie talked and Bet365 listened.

Haha wtf. Why is Latham so low? The expectation that if he does get a start he won't go on?

Ashwin with the new ball is too tough for lefties obvs, but then it perversely gets much easier later on for lefties, i.e. Santner.

It's almost as if they read that article about Ronchi and Santner being in line to be openers, so they figure Latham could drop down to No. 5 and get some good partnerships going with KW, Taylor and Watling in a meaty middle of the order.
