Ominous looking innings - don't think it's a 300 wicket so the fact India are on target for that means they're well ahead of the game.

Not really. If you know that the injury is the one that is not gonna heal or get better soon, it is better to bat on and try and get some big shots in, esp. on such a slow track. He was used to the pace and bounce and as MSD has shown, it is extremely difficult for the new man to come in and get going straightaway, esp. against the spinners. He did what needed to be done.
Also, Sodhi is bowling the kinda spell that captains hate. Goes for lots of runs, but is bowling well enough and creating enough chances/beating the bat enough to make the captain feel he might get a wicket anytime. Real roughie, that, for any captain at any level.
