what better options do india have than rahane? they play so many odis i can't keep up with the reserves. i'd always thought rahane was ok until this recent run.
The problem with Rahane and Rohit is that they're both very boundary reliant early on and if they don't get those boundary balls early on, the innings' start becomes a crawl. Don't really know who to try out though. I'd back Dhawan over Rahane for sure.

International Coach
Dhawan goes into his shell at times but he still has a stupendous record in ODIs overall imo
Dhawan gets a slight pass due to him showing up in big competitions, absolutely immense in England in the champions trophy in 2013.

Rahul is injured isn't he?

I don't follow Indian domestic cricket outside the IPL which was a few months ago so can't come up with names, but surely there has to be some?

The issue is you look at Rahane's overall numbers and they just are not good enough for this format, he has some purple spells but overall its not enough for a side who aims to be number one in limited overs format.

Dravid's son for Rahane is the obvious swap also, with regards to the topic at hand. I'd do it for sure.

oh look kohli looking assured when it's not an important game and there's no wagner around

ooh got it on mute so no idea if that's out but southee bowling slightly legside for 18 months then getting the oppo's best bat out with it would be pretty funny
