**Official** New Zealand in England

Haha, a premiership, not for my team Jono :)

I can't explain, I really can't. My passion for my football team is a bit like being in love; it's stupid, one-eyed and I have no idea why I feel the way I do or act the way I do because of it, but that when it goes right it makes me as happy as I could possibly be. When England won the Ashes in 05, yeah I was proud, but above all else I was happy, for me, because my team won, and in 2000 when Tranmere got to Wembley, the hairs on the back of my neck weren't because I was proud that my little team from Birkenhead was the talk of the nation, it was joy because we were successful and I felt like part of that success. If it had been obtained unfairly, I wouldn't have been any less happy.

Don't want to talk about footy too much, so I shall provide a link for something that came to mind:

Though it has never been formally stated that we tried to cheat, it was unfair that we had an extra man on for a couple of minutes (the extra man did some killer marking on a late free-kick), I was just absolutely buzzing that we'd beaten yet another Premiership side in the best season of my life

Gawd, the British bookmakers crack me up  Despite NZ being ranked 3 in the world as opposed to England's ranking of 7th or 8th and despite New Zealand winning 6 out of the last 8 ODI's between the 2 sides (not including the no result & tie), not to mention the momentum of winning the last 2, they still have England as favourites going into the 5th game. I might register and put down a few lazy dollars. These odds of England paying $1.67 and NZ 2.30 seem the wrong way around to me

STFU about Vettori FFS. The damn thing was done to death last night. We get it, you hate him and we have about as much chance of changing that view as we do of getting SP to praise an NZ player. Time to move on.
Agreed. TH's "Vettori bashing" is becoming as boring, predictible and as over the top as both Richard's constant bashing of 20/20 cricket and SP's constant bagging of NZ cricket.

Perhaps the three of them should set up a meeting so they can bitch and moan to eachother about their respective pet-hates because I think I can safely say most of us a sick of it. Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their point of view, but to make the same point over and over almost constitutes trolling for mine.

It's only because of the patriotic pound, I'd imagine

I think the pommies 'av gotta have a good look at their ODI team. I would of hoped we had done enough in ODI's in the last few months to ensure the 'favourites' tag for this game. I just hope we can win it. A 3-1 ODI result would really bring something out of this tour for us after an indifferent test series.

Good to hear that quite a few of the NZ squad went to Wimbledon to watch Marina Erakovic win her 2nd round match, which she was apparently quite excited about.

The old man reckons Erakovic dresses, walks and generally looks like a bloke. Has a fair point ITBT.

Given Collingwood's out for England that makes no sense at all.

Just a quick stat to further reinforce that, in the last 10 ODIs between the two sides, England have won just 2 (NZ 6, one tie and one N/R - and in both the tie and No Result the Black Caps may feel as though they were on track for victory).

Blackcaps are on to win this match & series. That will a sweat revenge to what happened to NZ in this English tour. Lot of drama happened in this tour and Vettori will hoping to end this series on high.

Hope Jacob Oram gets some big runs! He was absolutely good in the last match.

With Kyle Mills and Grant Elliot in doubt for tonight's game, I'm quite worried about how the Black Caps will perform. We will definitely need big performances from our established players if we want to get up for a victory. Would really like to see How make some big runs too.

Even without Grant Elliot & Mills, the tempo is with us. Michael Mason will be in and I think Mason is pretty good in this tour. Hope he will adjust well for this ODI. My only concern is batting.

When you look at last two matches, it was Mills who hanged around with the tail to score some valuable runs. Unfortunately, we miss his batting more of his bowling IMO because I expect Mason to perform well. With Elliot out, Hopkins gets another chance. Hope he does not misuse this. If he gets some runs today, it will be bonus. But Yes, all the experienced players need to be at their best today.

Losing Mills is a huge blow to our chances. He is the #4 ranked ODI bowler in the world, the leader of our attack and a very handy lower order batsman. It was him that got us over the line at the end of the innings in our last two matches, and his experience in the bowling line-up will be hard to replace. Michael Mason is a good bowler, of that I have little doubt, but his batting doesn't come close to matching Kyle Mills.

Hopkins is useless. Sure, he's been in good FC form over the past couple of seasons for Otago and Auckland, but as a limited overs batsman he is very poor, and nowhere near international class. The sad thing is, aside from Brendon McCullum, New Zealand don't really have any wicket-keepers waiting in the wings and Hopkins is the best of a bad bunch. Peter McGlashan continues to score runs at domestic level for Northern Districts, but he certainly doesn't look international class.
