Surely that's not really Broad? I thought players weren't allowed near mobiles/ twitter during matches.

Hey, but on the plus side Jade Dernbach is trending on Twitter, he's really arrived at last I feel:ph34r:

The England ODI batting lineup is a specialist beast though. I'd back them to get 270 regularly on marginally bowler-friendly decks where most teams would struggle, but I wouldn't back them to get much more than that on complete roads. They back themselves to consistently get par or just above and then back their bowlers to defend it (or - back their bowlers to restrict their opposition to below par and then comfortably chase it). They're just not anywhere near as good a team on roads as a rule.
Definitely don't have the bowling attack to restrict sides nor the batting lineup to set big enough totals.
We're hittable and easy to get after IMO and the batting is too pedestrian upfront for any score to ever feel like 'enough' unless Morgan and Buttler both come off.
Our only chance is bowling first and chasing.

Seems like we bowled well today though. Woakes really needs to disappear from ODIs. Obviously people are focusing on the fact his bowling isn't up to it but neither is his batting. Should probably bat below Bresnan ffs. He's a genuine nuffie with the bat in OD cricket tbh

It felt like the commentators were getting bored of talking about how bad it was. The selectors will surely say enough is enough after that.
There was plenty of evidence before today that Dernbach shouldn't be anywhere near the side, so I'm not optimistic that the selectors will get the message even now.

The New Zealand batting on this tour has panned out remarkably similar to last summmer's domestic happenings thus far.

They have struggled to make 200 in the whites but as soon as those pyjamas go on they're scoring 350.

Also is this game beyond jinxable for NZ?
I'm tempting fate here, but I think so.

I know it's a flat deck, but
1. It's the 5th highest ODI total of all time. More importantly, barring the ridiculous 450s Aus-SA match, noone has successfully chased a score this high.
2. It's easy to forget that Mills is one of the best ODI bowlers in the world.
3. There are more bowling options at McCullum's disposal than there were for Cook, so even if one of them is getting tonked there is backup. Also, presumably he won't use his bowlers as half-wittedly as Cook did.

4. No Dernbach

Dougie is likely to go for plenty. He's always been dire at the short forms and he isn't exactly in top form right now. If Mitch M has one of his naff days, Mills gets bowled at the death and Franklin bowls as per normal, England can chase this.

Look at the top three, though. Cook/Bell/Trott... that's not really the lineup you want for a 7rpo chase.
