***Official*** New Zealand in England series 2013

Flem274*

123/5
Ronchi needs to stand up today.

Since almost everyone contributed with the bat the other day we must be due our once per series 50/5.

Even though, its dead rubber.. a innings of this class should be highly appreciated.. Remember, it's against the same bowlers, ENG had problems all this ODI series
Got 2 and 14 in the games when the series was alive though. That can't be forgotten thanks to a big hitting cameo.

That is EXACTLY why he is in the side though.

Still not sure that is enough runs, was really poor for 45 overs.

As others have said though Morgan finding some form is vital.

Jos Buttler. WAFG. Annoyed I finished work when I did, missed Buttlers knock. Had it on the radio though, sounded epic. Bout time he delivered in ODi's!

Par score on this ground is 240. England hot favourites.

Superb from Morgan and Buttler.
Historic or not, that looked in no way a 240 par wicket to me. More like 280-290.

Incidentally, anyone know if dew plays much of a factor in these parts?

tbh i actually think Buttler is wasted coming in that late. Yes this time he came off but it's a very risky policy to go along at 4and 1/2 an over for 46 overs and then hoping to explode. What if Buttler fails as you are going to do a decent amount of the time with no time to play yourself in. Buttler is good enough to come in with 15 overs to go and needs to be backed rather than shunted to the last 5 overs or so as a hitter. Today was a great opportunity for Buttler to come in with 15 to go and play aggresively knowing that he still had Bopara and Bresnan behind if he was out.

I haven't watched the whole series, but has Jos made any glaring 'keeping errors, apart from when he let that one thru his legs, but one sharp catch I remember, has he put any down?

Makes you wonder if Bopara will play in CT as it served no real purpose to send him in before Buttler.

Are we mad enough to play the big 3 quicks and Swann and fudge 10 overs a game from Root and Ravi?

Root, Trott and Ravi. Dunno really, but if they do, let's pray that Jos get's a bat before Ravi.

presumably it's all down to whether Broad and Finn are fit. If they are they still go Bresnan, Broad, Swann, Anderson, Finn. If one or both isn't fit I think if Ravi bowls anything like tonight he'll play. Bopara is ever improving as a bowler(lets hope im not gonna regret those words later).

He has power and had nothing to lose there, can he build an innings or do it in a game that counts as this is a dead rubber if you didn't realise.
He's had about two chances tbf. And in both those games, neither Root or Morgan did any better. He's shown he can do it at all the levels he's had a decent chance at; ODers for Somerset, Lions games in Sri Lanka. Just give him a chance. Not like there are loads of people who would do a better job. All the other contenders are top order batsman.

Yeah me too. He should've come in at 6. It's risky because it means he has to tee off from ball one, which obviously increases the chances of him failing. Although I guess as he is the last recognised batsman, they don't want him falling before the last two or three overs.

Buttler's the ideal 7, you want him just teeing off and doing strange things that get the opposition bowling all flustered.

Inevitably, some of the time what he's doing won't work.

No Michael, it's not a different approach from New Zealand, that was a pie that deserved to be smashed to the boundary.

< Wonders if BeeGee still thinks it's a 240 par wicket & England are raging hot favorites early on.........

Par scores are a bit random in one day cricket no? ODI's are at an all time high in scoring nature for a high number of reasons. 240 isn't par for this match.
