*Official* New Zealand in England 2021

Well, Gooch started with two blobs, so Bracey is in good company.

Think he's rather more likely to end up as a Quiney-esque meme than a proper test player though.

Been quite some time since we've selected anyone who looks so palpably not up to it.

I mean, even Chris Schofield could bat a bit.

Potentially crucial knock here from Lawrence, both from his own POV and in the context of the game. Bowlers have been kept interested right through.

Tbh it's also because anyone who watched that series in full knew full well that those were not exactly two great teams duking it out and England mostly won 3-0 by dint of Australia being a bit **** and not being able to capitalise on the many, many opportunities they had in that series to win a game. That Lord's Test match in particular was embarrassingly low-quality all around, Swann was getting wickets with knee-high full tosses and Steve Smith got three in about five minutes.
I agree that it wasn't the highest quality series in terms of the pure standard of cricket, but IIRC the bowling was actually pretty good on the whole and should probably count in favour of Bell's legacy from that series (or at least, not against it)

I think it was also the series that England clinched by tying their shoelaces before every ball.

Still, it was a very tough series for batting and Bell is hard done by.

Nice little partnership building up, annoying from a NZ POV. Come on Wagz, break this one before the new ball comes along.

Whatever it takes!!!
Crawley Root Stokes Pope Lawrence can be a pretty good to watch middle order if the youngsters can get their act together. Throw in a Sam Curran at 8, it wont be short of entertainment and on a good day, will make the cricket very watchable.

Ajaz getting some lovely drift

He is qualitatively better than Santner
He'll probably be more important in the second innings here, but he's definitely done his bit. Considering this is far from NZ's first choice attack.

Mitchell's pitch map is not James Neesham-level bad, but way off the level needed for him to be considered a like-for-like CdG replacement (with the ball anyway).

Well played Lawrence, been good to watch.
