Yes I suppose it's true Ferguson could've made like Young and got in about three county four-dayers by now, if he really felt a WTC final appearance would gain great cachet to it later in life. Perhaps he's a bit like a rugby star in 1987, not really aware whether it becomes a big thing.

I think any talk of being a vapid camwhore for T20 money would probably see him immediately grab that tennis racquet he had in lockdown, demanding you face up for some of Henry Cooper's bruises...

NZ really needs to start bringing in a 90 mph guy into their test setup as a regular. Almost everybody has one (or even 2), and they have had major moments for their countries. Some even lead the attacks. NZ has good variation in bounce and swing bowling but in regards to speed, its all the same. If wagner goes it should be Lockie's time, finally.

Which other seamer would you have picked?

Note at the time of selection it was assumed that Boult and Jamieson would be unavailable due to IPL, so likely 1st test lineup would have been Southee Henry Wagner + Bracewell/Duffy, injury cover from Duffy/Bracewell. They couldn't pick a young seamer (e.g. Sears) as they needed the 6th + 7th seamers seamers in the squad to be ready to slot into the playing XI as solid no-risk 4th seamer backup to the more experienced seamers.
I suppose that's fair enough, never thought of it like that

We do have CdG and Daryl Mitchell in the squad right? Just seems like a lot of bowlers.

In any case I'd sooner take Duffy than Bracewell in the event of an injury.

Bracey, that is a bolter. Is that a sign Bairstow and Buttler will no longer have a test career?

edit: RIS had spotted the Bracey chat i see. But still, shuffling him up to open against Boult & Southee seems like exactly the same error NZ are doing with Conway
The Bracey bandwagon is a slightly odd one. He was a bit of a left field call up last home summer when England picked a massive initial squad for the first covid bubble but scored runs in the intra squad game and generally impressed the coaches enough to keep him around for the rest of the summer and then take him on the Asia tour too as a backup. It helps that he can bat in the top or middle order and keep, so a useful squad guy.

He's started the county season well batting in the top 3 for Gloucestershire. I think it's Burns' slot he's threatening. Butter will still be first choice wk when the IPL guys are made available again and Foakes probably still his deputy.

From all I read of him, I am afraid there is a very good chance England do a Dinesh Karthik with him and he never really identifies what his ideal skill set is at the international level.

They will possibly play an Intra squad game. Will be nothing compared to what NZ has come up with though. Best we can hope for is Pitch is similar to last summer & weather stays good. BCCI is not at much fault this time. It was always going to happen like this.

Looks like our first set of boys have started training albeit indoors given the English summer. How cool it'd be to watch the inter squad game? Will Kane and Rosco get to bat again in case they get out cheap?

Here's what I'm looking for in the inter squad

Conway batting at the top of the inning
Darryl or CDG, who's in better form
Will Nicholls get a hundy given our boys are not going to drop catches like WI, Pakistan or Bangladesh did
Ravindra batting wherever he does and seeing how he goes about bowling
How effective is Ajaz in those conditions with the ball of course
Santner, can he score heaps and take poles

the santner one is an easy no

Rachin Ravindra has actually made it. Amazing.

Seems only yesterday his father (or was it his uncle?) made a thread about this young prodigy in 2008 on ICF forum. Although the bits about KW and Ross being his ''idols'' appears a bit coached.
