*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Not denying it was a good knock in the context of the match but it's lightyears behind Root's.
Not really comparable innings. Root's more cultured but had more narrow escapes than Stokes, such as an almost plumb lbw and an edge that dropped fractionally short.

So far we've had a period of total New Zealand dominance, then one of total England dominance, then one where it was pretty even.

This is true, but whereas in that instance Root was defeated by a decent delivery, Stokes at times seemed to be keen on giving up his wicket. His attacking attitude was a gamble that paid off but his innings seemed on borrowed time for his first 20 or more runs.

Pre-lunch and post-lunch Stokes looked almost entirely different in terms of tightness.

Not been able to watch any of this. Seems like an over-willingness to attack from NZ? That first session was thrilling (as much as possible in following Cricinfo's ball by ball at any rate), but the bowlers appear to have been all over the shop since then. Guessing it's a case of trying too hard. Happy with Henry's debut so far. I'm not inclined to treat him as the second coming of Dale Steyn just yet but definitely see him as an investment.

Joe Root looks to have played the Graham Thorpe role to perfection - counter attack, then settle down but keep putting the bad ones away (that lbw was a massive moment no doubt).

First ball I see is an amusing misfield going for four.

Anyone want to fill me in on any deets I can't get from the card?

I understand Root has played wonderfully that goes without saying

Henry seems to be putting in a nice little spell here to Buttler. Good work from the designated third seamer.

Yes!! Good reward for Henry. Not his best ball, but well deserved - has been bowling an excellent spell since I managed to tune in.
