He Taylor) lost his spot because of Billings - and moving Stokes up the order.
Stokes at 5 makes sense, even if he failed yesterday.

I must admit to knowing nothing whatsoever about Billings vs Taylor, but presumably the former is regarded as being more likely to kick on immediately rather than building an score from earlier in the innings.
But I have no idea how fair an assessment that is.

Yeah Billings more likely to go harder quicker than Taylor, was brutal for Kent last year, however he isn't in great nick so it could be a tough series for him, you suspect if he fails you may not hear from him for a bit.

What I know about Billings, if that counts...., or helps...:
A mighty fine finisher. And properly used as such by Kent in the 2014 50-over-competition. Only 3 batsmen outscored Billings in the competition, but all of them faced twice as many deliveries. I can see why England bat him, a specialist batsman, at 7. Makes sense, not? I'ld stick with him for this series. Anyway, I guess comparing him with Taylor isn't anythong close to a fair assessment.

Reckon they'll give Boult a breather
I'm not sure they will, nor that they need to. He's our best bowler, about the fittest bloke in the team and we're 1- zip down. Not sure 10 overs, 3 days after his last 10 over spell will prove too tiresome/ or risky, unless of course he has some sort of niggle we don't know about.

Why is it that Boult and Southee bowl roughly the same amount of overs in the test matches, and yet Boult fronts up for the first ODI whilst Southee is exhausted from his workload and needs a rest?

Not entirely sure, but could have something to do with their respective physiques. Boult just looks the more resilient & wiry of the two and hence less likely to suffer stiffness & niggles.

Maybe Boult gets rotated the next match? Now that he plays all forms like Southee has for the last 3 years..

The countdown to the next meaningful ODI is progressing slowly, only 4 years to go of this crap till we put out the number one line up.

Australia home this summer will be #1 line up if ODI happens.

There is also a champions trophy in 2017.

It wouldnt be so bad if Milne and Corey supported by Neesh were fit.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
So with the retirement of Mills, is Southee-Boult-McClenagahan now our A Team as far as seam goes?
wtf, no. It's Southee-Boult-Milne and then Henry>McClenaghan>Wheeler (one assumes regarding the Wh33lz).

I wouldn't read much into Henry missing out and Mitch getting another go. He was on the bench for all but one match of the WC and probably deserves some game time. Back-ups still need to bowl at international level now and again to keep up with it all. Henry's had plenty of cricket recently.
