Oh gawd if we decide to start bowling short to Cook....

Henry could take a bagful here, just needs that 'one'.

Too early for this leg-side tactic. Cook's looked a little less certain in the last 15-20 minutes.

That one swung from Southee.

What bothers me is that we try a tactic for at most 3 balls before moving on too something else. Sometimes individuals tactics last for one ball.
The idea is to shake things up briefly before returning to the standard plan. There's no point in our bowlers going all out short for overs at a time, but a quick three ball tester is worth a shot. When things are getting too comfortable you need to make the batsman change something, even if it doesn't get them out.

Even though it went for a boundary, the short ball ploy was needed. Can't be predictable.
Sure, but right at the time Cook was looking a little less certain? Timing just seemed wrong.

NZ aren't too far away here, just need a touch of luck.

Nah, so far things are going perfect. This test has been almost a mirror image of Lord's so far. NZ sent in. Early wickets. Counter-attacking revival. Dismissed after some shots on the morning of day 2. England make a solid start to be 50/0 at lunch. Got 'em right where we want 'em.
