Do you have any idea how difficult such a decision can be?

There is a definite sound and as the contact came just a few inches past the bat the timing would appear, to an umpire, to be correct. The sound of the ball flicking the thigh pad can sound very like an edge.

Sometimes you are lucky and it's clear either way.

It's very easy from an armchair - I'll give you that
