after the first test I would've said that we had zero positives so far:Well done to the 2 almost debutants Anderson and Sodhi. Both came out to bat at crucial times with the innings in the balance, and both played well and built crucial partnerships.
yeah he's been rather poor, but I don't understand Mushfiqur's captaincy.Hope experiment with domestic bully Razzak in test ends with this match for ever
My thoughts on this is that McHesson knew that the selection of Sodhi required another bowler and that was Anderson. They also know how poor Brownlie is against spin. All up a pretty good day and after lurching towards disaster on a couple of occasions, we straightened up and eventually got what needed to be done done. Most frustrating was Kane's dismissal. He's now got something like 7 50's and just 1 hundred in his last 8 first class. C'mon Kane, I know you're easily our best no. 3 since Fleming, but lets just leave it like that and not over-extend the connection between the two of you. I'll concede Anderson looked pretty yuck against the seamers, but I still loved watching him bat. Would have to think that he's secured his place in the team for the series vs the Windies. Really feel for Brownlie.
Sodhi and Waddles to bat through to lunch and make PEWS weep salty tears of sadness and rage tomorrow.
Sodhi outperformed the top pick on this tour, and Anderson is legitimately a better batsman than Brownlie in these conditions against spin. That was the case before this series even started, and his century against India A is evidence of that. So he was the top pick.My thoughts on this is that McHesson knew that the selection of Sodhi required another bowler and that was Anderson. They also know how poor Brownlie is against spin.
If they have their thinking caps on, they will give Brownlie the spot for the West Indies series and not select Sodhi.
I know that Flem and others don't subscribe to horses for courses selection policies, but the reality is that Anderson and Sodhi weren't the top picks at the start of this tour anyway, and that shouldn't change because they performed.
Sorta like how PEWS wants the Aus selectors to handle Johnson - sure, pick him at the WACA, but just because he gets wickets doesn't mean he should play in the other tests.
We'll see though. I'm obviously a big fan of Anderson, but I would prefer they go with Brownlie for WI.
yeah I agree, I'm simply saying that they weren't the number 1 picks for a tour not in Bangladesh.Sodhi outperformed the top pick on this tour, and Anderson is legitimately a better batsman than Brownlie in these conditions against spin. That was the case before this series even started, and his century against India A is evidence of that. So he was the top pick.
