Michael Clarke's epic (possibly) PCP induced leave can be found here: YouTube - The Top Ten Weird Dismissals Of Cricket!!

Also on the video - Tendulkar out Arm Before Wicket to McGrath, Symonds out caught off Clarke's pad, Murali's run out after Sanga's century vs NZ, and a brilliant run out involving Chanderpaul and Runako Morton.
Love the bit where Symonds motions to Clarke that he owes him a beer.

Him looking like a complete gimp in his last 10 or so international matches probably hasnt helped.
The guy has done nowhere near enough wrong in ODIs to be dropped imo. His domestic performances of late do not indicate that he is horribly out of form.

Funnily enough, my favourite moment in that game had nothing to do with Watto.

It was, of course, the Michael Clarke leave. Well judged, no doubt.
What more amusing is that Clarke virtually did the same thing in that infamous SCG test against India, he shouldered arms pretty much in the same fashion to an off-spinning delivery from Harbhajan Singh, and this time rather then getting bowled, he was struck on the pad and was plumb lbw, so that was definitely not an one-off incident.

"Teams that are outclassed in five-day matches and even 50-over games are much more competitive in Twenty20. India offer a good example of this."

Hahaha when did he say this?

I think this guy is my least favourite captain ATM.

isnt Diamanti a 125km/h medium bowler? he averages over 40 this season, i saw him a few times doesnt look that threatning.

Well I saw Diamante bowl in a final of a state shield match a few years ago and he seemed fairly accurate but to be honest this has come out of the blue. Would have much preffered to see Thompson in there instead. Oh well, hope they play Boult more.

Also interesting to see no more Flynn and the inclusion of Fulton and O'Brien. A very interesting side yet I feel they need to stop making changes all the time fairly soon.

Mildly embarrassed to see Diamanti selected tbh, as if he'll ever be an international cricketer.
Kinda like the second coming of Tama Canning imo.

Boult, well, I hope this doesn't ruin him (if he plays)

With O'Brien, well, both he and Gillespie are much better performed in 4 day cricket and fairly dire even in domestic OD cricket, so it's much of a muchness really.

Fulton though, woot! Sh*t I hope he goes ok

Not concerned about Boult being picked, he proberbly won't get a game and it will be good for him to be in the environment. Diamanti though WTF.

Mixed emotions on this one.

Can't see Boult playing at all outside of the Presidents XI game to be honest. He's the there for the experience and I think it's a positive move if they start taking some of these younger talents along for the ride and get them immersed in the culture.

Diamanti - 28 yr old - 28 with ball, 21 with bat - OK stats - not an international class player though, his selection seems puzzling and will no doubt be short lived. Last season I would of considered Hiini, but he seems to have gone to the dogs, Franklin isn't operating at 100% and Anderson has done little to warrant selection - although going by Boults selection Williamson and Anderson cant be far away from getting a run in a Twenty20 or home ODI (Nash has said as much on Anderson).

What worries me about Diamanti is that his selection echos that of Patel when he first hit the scene. Patel was considered someone who could hold up an end by spearing it into the block hole and to be honest his career to date has been of limited success. Diamanti is largely a 2 length bowler and with a domesitc ER of 4.54 is going to leak runs on Aussie wickets - he is an inferior death bowler to Patel and won't be tight enough to limit runs in overs 25 - 40.

Diamanti will also offer little with the bat - much in the mold of Andre Adams. I would of thought Nathan McCullum would of been higher in the pecking order than Diamanti.

By in large the team is ok, cant really disagree with most of the selections - O'brien is the best of a bad bunch (in ODIs) and Fulton probably warranted selection given the lack of viable options. We don't have that strong lower order which has seen us sneak past the aussies before, so I fear this tour will dispell the 'Kiwis have it over the aussies chasing' mentality.

So I assume the playing XI will be:

McCullum
Ryder*
Guptil
Taylor
Fulton
Broom
Elliot*
Vetorri*
Mills*
Southee*
O'Brien/Patel*

6 bowling options - with Elliot and Ryder likely to share 5 overs each. Very light on options if Southee gets some 'tap' as well.

The other option of course is to replace Fulton/Broom with Diamanti - which is going to really weaken that batting lineup. Oram's loss is really being felt.

Diamanti's domestic record is passable, it's certainly not an outrage that he's been picked based on domestic performances. Perhaps he'll surprise us all and do a decent job. However, he seems like just the sort of bowler that does ok in NZ and gets butchered at international level, having watched him play.

His e/r is not really good enough as a purely containing bowler, he actually has the stats of an attacking bowler, which suggests to me that he gets some help from poor batting and helpful conditions, as he is very much of the dibbly-dobbly variety.

I'm pleased Flynn's out. That NZ middle order desperately needs more experience.

I wouldn't agree with the thought that Boult won't get a game. When a really good youngster is in the side, sometimes there's a huge temptation to play them. I imagine O'Brien will be first choice quick ahead of him..but I reckon one bad game for Iain and they'll look at Boult.

Im also surprised Diamanti's been picked ahead of Ewen Thompson..heck, even Paul Hitchcock who was in the side last year. I've seen him a few times and he's definately a no frills player, but maybe his consistency has won over the selectors.

Usually I fall in love with accurate medium-pacers, imo there is still a place for them in one-day cricket. I'm prepared to give Diamanti a look but I just have my doubts that he is anywhere near the required level.
