International Vice-Captain
"This is Southee's dream pitch. He's picked up a debut five wicket haul against England in Wellington last March on a pitch that was virtually the same as in this match. With the added Brisbane humidity, good luck to the Australian Batsman who are facing possibly the most difficult seam bowling lineup after coming off the India tour"

Getting a little carried away yeah?
Yup.

Can we start a count of the stories we'll hear this summer from the commentators?

- Richie's "be there at the end" story
- Chappelli's "oh great another big fast bowler!" story
- A few Shane Bond mentions, no doubt

A shame Jaques isn't playing, I'll miss hearing about the weight of his bat.

Any others?
Rodney Redmond.

It Wont last though just cuz of all the rain etc seaming conditions. etc etc. so now who thinks ponting should have tried to cop the suspension to beat india. hahah
I don't think the wickets were down to the conditions though, they were well bowled and well thought-out deliveries from Southee.

But it's true that it probably won't last, Clarke and Hussey played very well through to the end of the session and our bowling standard duly slipped.

Well...I picked it, Southee in for Mills.

Southee is a champion...that ball to Ponting was a cracker.

I've got to say, the first hour of that session is the best first hour of a Test match I've seen NZ play since...well, quite a while ago. Really awesome stuff.

Elliott's selection is a strange one. His bowling will offer nothing so why not select Fulton? Fulton has been seriously unlucky in the past year, and he could have been trying to save Canterbury's arse in NZ instead of sitting on the sidelines getting a bit of net practice. What a waste.

It will be interesting to see if Elliott's bowling has any effect at all. I have my fingers crossed that he can fluke a wicket or two, perhaps spooned to cover or an arsey LBW decision, likely from Koertzen.

Kiwis don't like Elliott. We get it.
I like Elliott just fine, I think he is a very good cricketer. I just don't see the point in picking a bits and pieces all-rounder over a specialist batsman, when it is the batting that we will need. Especially when Fulton has been called over to Australia for the game, and has had to miss his FC game with Canterbury for nothing.

How many times have we seen this before...NZ take 3 quick wickets, only to let it slip. If they finish Aussie off for less than 200 after lunch then that's great..but im not holding my breath.

Martin's had an average start while O'Brien's been good, but not spectacular..these two need to raise their game in the next session.

You wouldn't be rating Wadds over Smith if you actually knew him...he's an angry little man. I got a massive fright the day I had to start working with him.
