**Official** New Zealand in Australia

When was the last time Hopkins had some game time? Would have thought that as soon as McCullum came down with any sort of injury, they'd send for Hopkins. Perhaps they have and it just hasn't been reported on by the media.

The only joke here is the NZL cricket team.
Let's just pull our team home then, eh? I mean, who actually wants international cricket, really? I'm sure you Aussies would love it if cricket turned into the summer equivalent of rugby league and your whole focus was around some tinpot mutual wankfest masquerading as an Australian domestic competition. Cos, ya know, you love your navelgazing sports in the "Lucky Country"...

Where do I insert the wink smiley? Here will do I suppose - ;)

Don't want to sound like a doom and gloom merchant this early but does anyone here feel that after this series a few people (batsmen in particular) will be shown the door? :(

I hope Flynn moves up to 5. I'm not his biggest fan but he's tough enough to move up and have to perform more. The side would also look far more balanced with McCullum at six.

Am also wondering if Fulton might be fast becoming the forgotten man of NZ cricket. Could possibly add Broom to the list too, seeing as he has FC experience and the premier NZ A batsman alongside Fulton. Though none in the middle order really warrant dropping yet, though arguably some should not have been selected ahead of...others.

How come when Aus finally have their weakest team in yonks our lot all feel the need to retire? Now was our chance, Its not fair I tell thee! :p

With Fulton flown over to Australia as cover for Ryder, and Southee not really impressing in the warm up, there really is no excuse now not to include the former in the test side at the expense of the later. Bat him at number three and bump everyone else down one spot, and the batting looks decidedly less fragile. As it is, pretty much everyone from number 3 down is batting at least 1 place too high.

Can't say i'm overly worried about this result. Had we taken those catches on the 2nd day we likely would have won. Looks as though our bowling is shaping up pretty well..creating quite a few chances. As usual the issue is with the batting, but it wasnt helped in this match by a million second innings changes due to injury and illness. I still have faith our top order will atleast pull out a respectable performace in Brisbane..I reckon with the current Australian attack, if we see off the new ball without too much damage runs are definitely on offer, just gotta keep Lee and Clark/Johnson out early on..easier said than done.

When considering this match you might want to take into consideration that the opposition isn't really that good. Being beaten by a mid-ranged domestic team is a very worrying sign.

Bit worried about Mills and Southee's form TBH, Mills in particular did nothing in the Bangladesh test series and didn't take a wicket in this game, so whats that 1 wicket for 210 in his last 3 games.

Actually, this is one of the rare cases where it's easier done than said.

Still not overly worried. As I said, touring teams losing to state/domestic sides happens regularly, it's hardly unheard of. A true indication of how good New Zealand are will be the first test at the Gabba.

Seems as though the trolls have come out in full force on this last page.

Naturally you cannot read to much into tour game warm-up results and the most important thing for NZ will be the time spent at the crease for the likes of Jamie How, Brendon McCullum, Daniel Flynn, Daniel Vettori etc. Also with the all the specialist bowlers getting around 30 overs under their belt, it will have been a decent and worthwhile workout for NZ.

It is a slight concern that they were unable to dominate larger parts of the game against a below par NSW side, but with the problems to McCullum and Ryder, the game time played will be of more importance, and the return to full fitness of these two.
