katich isn't exactly a specialist, i believe any number 3 should be able to open, considering they may come in at 1/0

I was using him as a middle order bat who has a lot of ability but I doubt if they'd be more of a success opening than in the middle order.

yeah katich has surprised me, didn't think kp looked that good at number 4 in australia, could still be their best option though.

Katich has been successful because he worked hard on changing his technique and is in great form.

so langer should never have opened, katich should have knocked back the selection on the basis that it's not his preferred position.
and on my theory, they should all swap hands for an hour to break things up

Bat was visibly not touching the pad so it could have only knicked the ball. Also the hotspot wouldn't have shown it even had it hit because it was the outside edge of the bat where the camera angle is not in line. A little doubt in it, not much though.

Okay, so here where you're failing to see the problem.
Langer was asked to open, and succeeded. Katich was asked, and is succeeding.
Fulton was asked to open, and failed. He is not an opener, he is not a makeshift opener, and he shouldn't be asked to open again. It can only result negatively for Fulton and the Black Caps.
Also, it's not like the New Zealand middle order is chock full of world class batsmen. Langer and Katich couldn't get into the middle order because it was so solid with class batsman, and the only place open was the opening position, either because someone was dropped or injured.
