Shaun has batted superbly. Mitch has been a tad fortunate, but has got has been positive and got his runs quickly.

Faaip,

he scored runs whilst batting @ 5 in the shield behind guys who scored mountains of runs

His test record is deplorable

He was average in the Windies

He scored runs in England vs 2nd XIs

He was embarrassing at Trent Bridge

He's been average this year in FC

I don't want to see him fail but he doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the test team

His brother has potential, he's 32
The point is he scored a lot of runs in shield cricket, got minimal test opportunities while continuing to score runs in warmup games throughout the Ashes series, and earned the right to be the #1 replacement batsman. Fair enough if you don't rate him but he's not being picked based on random guesses about potential or whatever, and people tend to assume he is because he's been in and out of the team so much without ever properly securing his spot (despite playing a handful of excellent innings) and because his overall shield record is poor.

Stapel

International Regular
Whatever we make of M&M, their partnership doesn't have too many signs of being in the middle of a 4th innings of a low-scorer.
