**** test match.

A lot of people blaming the pitch, and rightly so. To an extent. But truth be told, other than Starc the bowling has been really meh. Most of the wickets this game have come from the batsmen slogging.

Le sigh. Anyway, two sessions to get through tomorrow, barring a mental implosion we shouldn't have too many difficulties with that. Get through it, move on and pray to god that Trent Boult finds his rhythm sometime in the next 10 days.

By the way, they're saying on Cricinfo that Watling dropped Smith on 96. Tough chance?

Edit: Very tough

But dammit, you gotta take everything if you wanna win on pitches like these.

A couple of balls before one hit a crack and moved to the off so maybe that's why Watling wasn't moving too well, but it seemed to me he was very late committing down the leg side. A bit tough but should have been taken.

Legit question here: should New Zealand drop Boult for the third test? He's looking so far off the pace at the moment (in terms of both accuracy and - well - pace) it's just painful. But then again, a daynight match on a well grassed pitch might be just the thing he needs to kick him into form...dunno the way he's bowling I just can't help but feel he's gonna let us down again at Adelaide.

Um, about that...

Thought the groundsman said they were leaving more grass on to make sure the pink ball doesn't #getrekt.

Yeah, I'm kinda expecting a milquetoast version of the type of pitches that have been produced at the Basin in the last couple seasons - a bit of green on day 1, flattening out nicely in the afternoon before becoming a turbo-road from day 2 onwards with zero deterioration because of the aforementioned grass.

Steve Smith any chance of bringing up a double ton tomorrow? He needs about 70 to get there, and Australia probably want another 130 or so.

More that they are going to leave the rest of the square well grassed rather than unroadify the expressway down the middle of Adelaide Oval.

I don't know if Smith is going to be too generous tomorrow. Three knackered quicks and a pitch that is still a road.

So yeah, I reckon a double is on.
