Have a problem. Been typically trying to wake up for the 2nd session so far this test (usually actually waking up an hour or so into said session) but I haven't gone to sleep yet and want to see the start of play. Urgh.
What do you have on tomorrow?

BARNES OUT
So many Australian pundits calling yesterday boring cricket after sucking themselves off in excitement the first day, Channel 9 were especially bad yesterday. **** I hate the media here. That was one of the most impressive performances I've watched from foreign batsmen here, Kane and Joe Root are my two favourite batsmen to watch in cricket right now after the Watto & Sangakkara retirements.

Also, David Warner is the least enjoyable batsman in the team to watch. Doesn't help that he's also a massive flog of a bloke.

Thinking about the Uzi replacement and have a feeling they might turn to Darsh. I'd rather have Maxi or Forkers than that. I think the duration of recovery is a big factor. 1 test isn't a big deal but 2 or 3 and it needs to be a much more measured decision.

What did people think about the commentary on Lyon's bowling last night? I thought they raised some decent points, but by the same token it seemed to me the plan was for him to bowl the line he did, judging by the fields which were set for him.

lol them trying to keep viewers from switching off. this is definitely headed for a draw. Australia arent gonna sacrifice a 1-0 lead in the series for a 50-50 chance at victory here with a sub 300 total

seems strange for Smith to set a straight field when he'd been the one who asked Lyon to bowl wider in the previous test.

yeah but NZ should be pushing for victory at some stage if that happens.

Yeah I agree. I don't really agree with that plan but it clearly was the plan rather than just Lyon's execution. What was much more interesting was his bowling in the second innings in Brisbane where Smith was quite obviously very annoyed with how straight Lyon was bowling. Perhaps the plan has been formed as it is because Lyon just keeps bowling there rather than the other way around.

Well Australia tend to be pretty aggressive regardless of the situation traditionally, I think they generally try to go for a win.

Though I think Smith is a bit different to Clarke - the Melbourne game suggested that he is happy to bat for a draw. But in a 3-game series.....

There was some talk in this thread a few days back about the Barry Richards 329 in a day here against McKenzie and Lillee. Apparently he played and missed at his first ball of that day and Rod Marsh said loudly "I thought this bloke was supposed to be able to bat a bit". When Lillee bowled the last ball of the day to him and he danced down the deck and hit it on the full into the sight screen, John Invererity apparently turned to Marsh and said wtte of "I think he goes OK Bacchus"

im all for playing for a win as well, a series win. eg the bigger picture

its just not playing the percentages to try and blast 350 in 60-70 overs and set the kiwis a 'gettable' target
