I'm not watching this (at work) so really don't know what to think. McCullum will look like the gutsy loser by top-scoring here as well as being sawn-off, but was that really the way to bat in this situation?

Was his batting actually an attempt to win the game and is that really the best way to bat, even for McCullum, if the aim is survival?

To what extent were the other players encouraged to try to win the game and how did this affect the likelihood of us surviving?

I get the feeling that in attempting to win what was an almost outrageously unwinnable game we basically gave-up on drawing it. This seems like gutlessness or even laziness disguised as positivity and bravado.

Yeah, they are getting sick of their home team's bad sportsmanship.
Cut the trolling/persecution complex out. It's getting tiring already, and the tour thread has actually been readable for once. Don't derail it with this crap.

As an aside, would Mitchell Marsh be quicker than any of the NZ bowlers selected for this test?

Mccullum batted pretty well tbh although he was playing to win not to draw. None of the wickets had anything to do with approach though. It was mostly good bowling/poor techniques

Don't think the approach cost the team tbh.

Guptill tuk tukked and got out. Williamson played his game. Latham played his game. Taylor was early through his shot so maybe. Neesh tried hard but wasn't up to it, especially with a screwed back. Hard to blame McCullum for that.

I will blame McCullum for the helter skelter captaincy on day one and his awful shot in the first innings though.

Nah, people should know by now that close ones go to Umpire's Call. You don't have to use both your reviews; save them for absolutely bad decisions, not gambling them on marginal ones.
Yea while I think it's a good idea to not lose a review if it goes to umpire's call, I also think sides should understand the flaws in the system and work around them. Save the reviews for the really bad calls.

Not Terrible
In all honesty our top 3 and to a lesser extent Baz with the bat all kind of get a pass here. (Williamson obviously was great)

The rest of the batting was either below average or bad, but it's the bowling that got us slaughtered here.

Thought we would lose this match by much much more.

"That's not on. That's not right" Dirk Nannes very critical of Mitchell Starc for unleashing that throw. #AUSvNZ
You wouldn't get that from the NZ bowlers:ph34r:
