Cricket Archive has Graeme Hick as playing for Northern Districts in 1987/88 and 1988/89, and 10 One Day games for Auckland in 1997/98.Im pretty sure he played in the early/mid 2000s and scored prolifically.

Yep, his attitude stinks. That was pretty evident when he backed out of his Essex deal halfway through the World Cup to sign up with his IPL team. I have no doubt he'll eventually come good but it's his batting that's really starting to tick me off, he's just so pea hearted with the willow.Agreed.
I hope Jesse got a thousand uppercuts for his dismissal last night. If ever a dismissal could be called lazy, that was it. I don't think he's ever going to get it, sadly.
And on Southee, it's also attitude holding him back from being a world-class bowler. If he wants to take 300-400 Test wickets, and get his average below 30 or so, he will. If he wants to be a regular without ever being that great, make a bit of coin from limited overs cricket and play the larrakin/chase skirt (as he does now) then he'll continue as is.
Ah that's right, I forgot about his list A games for Auckland in the late 90's. Of course that made no difference to his England chances considering Hick was always a permanent fixture in England's ODI side at that time anyway.Cricket Archive has Graeme Hick as playing for Northern Districts in 1987/88 and 1988/89, and 10 One Day games for Auckland in 1997/98.
thanks, i guess i was thinking of his stint in auckland. doesnt seem that long ago..Cricket Archive has Graeme Hick as playing for Northern Districts in 1987/88 and 1988/89, and 10 One Day games for Auckland in 1997/98.
Southee really needs to toughen up His inability to get behind the line of the ball when batting sums his attitude up for me at the moment....weak.Yep, his attitude stinks. Without derailing the thread too much I think it's an absolute joke that players like Luke Woodcock and Rob Nicol pick up national contracts when they aren't anywhere test selection. Scrap the 20 contracts, make it 12 like England, and pay your best players far better money. I can imagine making 200K+ a year would look rather enticing for a guy coming up through the ranks. The problem for NZ is a simple one, Test matches just don't rate here. That is why players naturally gravitate towards ODI/T20's where NZ generally punch above their weight. We're lucky to get 2000 people along to a test match these days & our weak-chinned ex CEO did nothing at all to promote Test cricket in this country. They need to get back to rewarding well performed Test cricketers more than the other forms at a national level, only then they can start working on the other areas of development.
Maybe we might need more players to play county cricket. When we were at our greatest, in the mid 80s, our two superstars - Hadlee and Crowe - were playing extensive amounts of county cricket and had been for some time. Although it could be argued a) they were playing better sides due to better availbility of overseas players and England internationals and b) the schedules now wouldn't allow for it.i dont think we need to play county cricket. i think our comp is up to the task of fostering talent.
Andrew Strauss came to New Zealand, dumped by the English team. His career was pretty much over. He played a season in NZs comp, based on that he was selected for the English team (I think for their tour of NZ) and now he holds the ashes and captains the number 1 team in the world.
Other players have also resurrected their careers playing in the NZ comp like Hick.
5 one dayers and 6 T20s is a full season?i dont think we need to play county cricket. i think our comp is up to the task of fostering talent.

from my memory strauss, bopara and hick were all on the outer with England when they came to NZ. In the case of Hick and Strauss England were due to tour and they did it so that they would be conveniently located for selection BUT they still had to perform in the NZ comp else why select them?Maybe we might need more players to play county cricket. But the likes of Guptill, Williamson have and should continue to play over there, as should anyone else who isn't involved in IPL etc.
And incidentally you're drawing a horrendously long bow to suggest Strauss' successes were borne out of his short stint in NZ. From memory he didn't even play four-dayers. Yes he was here and they picked him, but you'd have to think they would've flown him over anyway.
well its the season he played. should he play every match? semantics5 one dayers and 6 T20s is a full season?
lol, stop getting it wrong about Hick, It was pointed out already that he only played List A for Auckland & was already a permanent fixture in Eng's ODI side..... so not sure what ur point is about himfrom my memory strauss, bopara and hick were all on the outer with England when they came to NZ. I agree regarding playing in the county comp. it makes sense to play as much cricket as possible against good opposition and the seasons dont clash so theyd hopefully be back to play in the nz comp. if they stayed offshore then it weakens our comp.
i think youll find he was dropped from england in 1998lol, stop getting it wrong about Hick, It was pointed out already that he only played List A for Auckland & was already a permanent fixture in Eng's ODI side..... so not sure what ur point is about him
he just played this last seasonCricket Archive has stopped working for me but I'm almost certain that Bopara hasn't played domestic cricket in New Zealand.
So how were his one day games for Auckland in '97 in anyway a resurrection attempt on his career?i think youll find he was dropped from england in 1998
Just like NZ cricket was the making of Michael Holding as wellYeah, Jonathan Trott owes everything to spending a season in NZ Domestic cricket.
Without a doubt.Just like NZ cricket was the making of Michael Holding as well
Haha, all a bit of tomfoolery, tbh. He's from Dandenong, **** like that is par for the course. He got his jaw broken by one of his mates.
The 1997 English season was the first for seven years in which Hick had no international duties to perform. my bad he was dropped in 97 ffsSo how were his one day games for Auckland in '97 in anyway a resurrection attempt on his career?
