If anything helps us to post competitive totals on pitches like this, it's the fact we bat down to 10. At Trent bridge this year we were ****ed until Swann and Broad teed off.

The biggest issue here for both sides are the openers. On a pitch like this going some way to seeing off the new ball and stopping the middle order from being exposed to it is imperative

Both sides have failed miserably in this respect, and I think its largely because that concept of opening the batting has been lost in the modern game
