I'm guessing there is a lot riding on the performances of this Aus A side. If guys like Wade or Cutting want to force their way into the Test side they'll need to put in big performances. The selectors would look stupid picking someone who doesn't perform in the warm up game.

I was hoping the 'A' game would be a laid back affair with the Aussies going through the motions and giving us batting practice. Doesn't sound like it will be that way.

Also before the NSW game was cancelled why were they selected why didn't we get some other state it always seems to be NSW.

Whoop, Smithy's heading over the ditch to commentate during the series. Very unlike Channel Nine I thought.

A laid back affair is the last thing we need..we need good, hard cricket to steel us for what is to come in the Tests. And we'll get that. It's great. I'm also pleased we left our guys back for last Plunket Shield round to play meaningful cricket as opposed to an average hitout against a 2nd XI. Plus it can only benefit our younger domestic guys and others.

As for the NSW game, it bemuses me a little bit. NSW lose most of their players to Australia, surely NSW 2nd XI is one of the weaker ones going around.

Good to hear Smithy is going over. Someone has to hold them to task and correct the ignorant comments that we typically get from a CH9 commentary team that, bar a couple, has no interest in what happens outside their country.

Ian Smith will be so grating though. He'll wear that New Zealand flag in the commentary box and we'll probably be able to hear the other guys grinding their teeth. He's a pretty decent commentator but sending Ian is sending the cat amongst the pigeons.

Healy vs. Smith will be ITSTL
Haha, there's only one winner here. In the commentary box, at the buffet table...wherever your battle may be.

He can hold Heals to task when he tells us if Australia take five wickets in five balls, they're right on top even if we are 300-2. And he can explain to the rest of them who Kane Williamson is when they call him 'unheralded'

I can't wait till Williamson gets to 50 and they say Williamson is announcing himself on the world stage for the first time.

He's out here every time on 9 when NZ tour normally.

Ch 9 used to have someone from the touring side every summer from the visiting nation in the pre-Nicholas days, they don't seem to do it as much anymore, but from memory Athers or Gower or something (I forget) might have dropped in once or twice during the Ashes.

Poor New Zealand is not there fault that this series is going to seem so ****ty, we sure they can't just play Sri Lanka again and Australia can stay in South Africa.

I used to like him as a neutral when he worked in England. Spoke lots of sense and was generally quite funny as well. Can imagine he gets a bit jingoistic, then again there aren't many who don't as a commentator so he can be excused.

So what's the plan from an Aussie selection point of view? Do you use this series to blood some new talent or do you stick with the same team from the SA series and hope the under performers find form?

Ponting? Siddle? Haddin? Hussey? Johnson? Should they play?
If Watson can't bowl do you play him as a specialist batsman?
