Weston's footwork is fine tbh. Last I saw him bat it was at least. Very good off the backfoot too, and goodness knows we need more batsmen who aren't front foot heroes.

Yeah, he is a century choker and a FTB (though he has scored, but when I say underrated I mean he's never given a mention in selection while all kinds of rubbish seems to get a run in the side or suggested for it. Weston can actually score consistent 50s, which is Godlike compared to the consistent 30s certain test players specialise in in FC cricket.

Unsurprisingly, most of the rubbish suggested comes from ND. ITS A CONSPIRACY!!!11

Oh, and he's from Taranaki and hasn't yet failed for the test side, so while Pinga smashes down test selection door for no reward I'll champion Weston, because if Jamie How can keep wicket for NZ then ex-keeper Weston can! Nyaaar!

Based on this season in isolation, if you were looking at selecting a team of uncapped under-30s to represent a NZ "A" selection for a pseudo test match, who would you pick? ...

Interesting question. Assume "capped" = test caps. Squad = 12. On a green pitch Astle is 12th man, on a batting pitch Wheeler. Ellis and Nicol the stock bowlers.

For their opponents how about a uncapped over 30s side? A little hard to find enough batsman, so McGlashan opens and we pretend that Myburgh didn't leave the Auckland squad. Doesn't have the pace of the U-30 side, but some canny bowlers.

Looks like rubbish weather for this round of the FC competition. Day 3 and only the Wellington v Auckland match looks likely to have some sort of outcome. Chris Martin took 5/47 - his longevity is starting to amaze me.

Bruce Martin is evidently enjoying the move up north. In his past 3 seasons for Northern, he'd managed 34 wickets at an average of over 58 and a best of 4/100. So far this season for Auckland, he's taken 18 wickets at around 25.5 with two fivers.

Congrats Derek de Boorder on his first hundred at the first class level. I've never really been a fan but he's fashioning himself quite a decent record for a keeper batsmen at this level. Hopefully his keeping has improved just as much as his batting has.

Heard a couple of rumours that he's quite sharp behind the stumps. Dunno how accurate they are, but I can't recall seeing him make an obvious **** ups behind the stumps in the HRV Cup this season.

He wasn't impressive at the Champions League a few seasons ago that's for sure. He made a couple of mistakes and didn't look that fluent when he was standing up at the stumps. Of course it was only a couple of games in a country where he'd never played before, I'm probably being harsh.

Haven't seen him bat at First Class level, but he's dominated club cricket in Wellington for years. Word I've heard is that last year in particular the entire Wellington team thought he should be playing, except the coach, who then decided this year that he wasn't a one-day player anyway, so didn't pick him for that part of the competition. After he got that double century in the Under-23 tournament he got picked again, and since then seems to be scoring runs pretty much every game.

He's probably stronger on the leg side than off, though not in the Ross Taylor slog sweep style, and I've seen him hit back foot punches through mid-off for four at times, so I wouldn't say he's one-dimensional. Can completely destroy a bowling attack if he gets in, as happened for that double ton.

Wellington have a chance at an unlikely victory here. Murdoch's ton did wonders for our prospects. Quality find.
