Nah, we just need more quality bowlers of any sort. Not many spinners do well in the NZ domestic setup (as against all the pacers) so this guy really will stand out if he keeps it up.125 for me We need a second spinner to back up Vettori or perhaps even be in the starting line up. His batting isn't half bad either. Only 24 so a lot of time to improve.
Only seen him bowl two overs in a 20/20, but fwiw it was good stuff. Nice turn, good flight and was unlucky. Had a dropped catch and the left hand batsman wasn't good enough to nick the variation, which looked like either a wrong un or the one that slides on (I didn't look at the TV fast enough, someone else to confirm which it was).Any vids of him in action? Not willing to get too excited yet. Sounds seriously promising though, see if he can get 150 odd FC wickets at under 30ish.
Louie!
3 years ago, yes now, no.Would you guys take Mark Gillespie over Andy Mckay?
Is he available for NZ ODI team?Louie!
Haha I was tempted to post 'I smell a recall' but it's been one innings and he hasn't looked too flash throughout the HRV and first few OD games. Reckon he could be in with a fair shout if he does keep in the runs, especially with big innings. Is he available for NZ ODI team?
IIRC the two Auckland pros were Adams and Adams, the Englishman and the Kiwi-playing-as-a-Kolpak-West-Indian. So Louie was considered as a NZ player. Experienced, in form, great fielder, why wouldn't he be considered for the World Cup?
If he can get back to where he was two/three years ago, then definitely. Yes, he does go for a few runs, but Gillespie will get wickets. Surely a better bet for a test match than Arnel.Would you guys take Mark Gillespie over Andy Mckay?
He was starting to get into some form towards the end of the HRV Cup. I doubt he'd be selected these days, though.Haha I was tempted to post 'I smell a recall' but it's been one innings and he hasn't looked too flash throughout the HRV and first few OD games. Could see him getting a gig in lieu (lol) of an injury or wanting to rest McCullum. Who knows, might even make a charge for the WC squad. He was starting to get into some form towards the end of the HRV Cup. I doubt he'd be selected these days, though.
Don't think so. Cbf reading back through, this is Todd Astle you're talking about?Wouldn't he have had to have been named in the 30 man squad first?

haha we are, and I am your firm () forum ally but couldn't pass that one up.I thought we were Tiger bros
Lol btw, must admit that was a good one.
Lol, even if Goodin isn't quick, Mathieson and Verma in the same team will be rather nippy.I don't know if this will interest many but the National Under 23 tournament starts next week down at Lincoln, it's a week long competition with every form of the game being played. It's basically a replacement for the under 19 competition which has been changed to under 18's for whatever reason. Northern Districts named their team today:
Michael Dodunski - Hamilton
Bharat Popli - Bay of Plenty
Jono Boult - Bay of Plenty
Tamati Clarke - Counties Manukau
Jono Hickey - Counties Manukau
Daryl Mitchell - Western Australia
Mitchell Santner - Hamilton
Brett Hampton - Bay of Plenty
Shane Gadsdon - Counties Manukau
Anurag Verma - Hamilton
James Baker - Hamilton
Andrew Mathieson - Hamilton
Tony Goodin - Bay of Plenty
Each teams allowed to field four over age players but ND are only going with one, Jono Boult. It's a strong team, both Mathieson and Gadsdon have first class experience, while Dodunski, Popli, Clarke, Hickey, Baker and Goodin have all played "A" cricket sometime during the last couple of years. Tony Goodin picked up a contract with Western Australia last year iirc, or maybe it was the year before. He'd probably be close to playing first class cricket soon anyhow, this is going back a few years but he was rapid in age group cricket, him and Boult formed a rather scary combination. I'd be really surprised if any team had a stronger seam attack then this one.
