*Official* New Zealand domestic season 2022/23

Probably a poor Mitchell series away
Completely different players/roles

Mitchell is a batter who is a part timer, while Smith is a new ball bowler.

Mitchell is basically a Scott Styris who is majorly dominating/overperforming with the bat, while Smith is more a bowling allrounder who bats pretty well and opens the bowling and swings it (think Chris Woakes who can use a kookaburra).
Mitchell is a 5/6, while Smith is about a 7.5 (should start at 8, and later move to 7).

Yeah Blundell is a waste at seven, although I don’t think Smith with his numbers is anywhere good enough to bat there for New Zealand right now.

I see what you're saying but I don't like it when domestic sides put top order guys at 7 and I don't like it here. Very hard with Blundell and Mitchell traveling well.

For people who follow U19 cricket, what's Muhammad Abbas' bowling like? Watched him bowl a couple of overs yesterday, looked pretty tidy even if the inert nature of the pitch left him largely ineffective.

Flattered to deceive a bit. Looked like a genuine frontline bowler with FC/Test potential on that discipline alone but didn't really put a lot of results together iirc.

Heaps to work with though.

A good debut double for Rhys Mariu opening for Canterbury. It's cool seeing some of the names from the under 19 WC side a few years ago finally making their way onto the first class scene.

I wonder how long it will take for the ICC to confirm if Foxcroft can get a waiver?

Wait till you watch him bowl at Basin. He will grab lot of wickets. He can swing the ball that's for sure. On basin decks early in the season he will grab a lot of wickets with that bowling that is if he pitches it up.

If NZ can get a few years out of fergurson in red ball that would be huge. He can fill in that middle overs breaker role that wagner usually does. Hopefully develop somoene else into the role over the next few years or find a decent spinner.

Hey guys I'm confused. Most sides seem to be playing the right number of bowlers? And a bunch of youngsters are playing (Sunde, Severin, Ashok, Heaphy)? I thought these things were mutually exclusive?

Lockie Ferguson picked for his first red ball game in 3 years. Maybe he’s about to make that push for the test team @Flem274*
Good on him for giving the four day game a go so close to ipl. Most players wouldn't risk an injury. There are no tests coming up after the SL series four like 6-8 months.

It's so good to see youngsters given a go by every domestic team. There are lot of young ones and they're doing quite well too.

Gareth Severin is debuting for firebirds. Another good positive cricketer. Not sure if it's the right thing to do Troy Johnson for Devan V. Troy is one of the better players from Wellington and should have been played no matter what his recent form is.
