***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2019/20

When they needed about 20 off 18 Grant Elliot said the game still wasn't over and he'd seen teams lose from that position. A great example of pressure coming on and mistakes happening. There was no need for Broom or Kelly to go for big hits at that stage and it let Wellington sneak home. Great game and excellent bowling from Newton and Neesham at the death.

Some of these T20 specialists are getting quite tubby. Missing the access to the trainer .

What are the chances of Sears getting a maiden call up for the blackcaps..say next year? Perhaps some A games against Ind A, or preferably the Ireland/Scotland West Indies stuff in June and July.

Yes, via NZA they've shown they're prepared to fast-track someone who's mature for their age and a high ceiling player, as seen with Ravindra's elevation. Wanting to fly a kite with that 2010 Adam Milne style of full international call-up, even in some white ball cricket all the fans view as of minimal importance, that sort of thing may well get your 25-35 y.o. domestic pro who takes his career deadly seriously crying into the phone to his NZCPA man these days.

Sears was a pretty accomplished Dean's List law student in his first year of Uni, so he would be in the very upper echelon of domestic cricketers for brains. As for maturity, he maybe is a little bit prone to a rookie's flounce when he's bowling without luck. A bit of theatre to your fast bowling hasn't held Wagner back, but one would never say Wagner drops his bottom lip with it.

A problem for Sears will be that if you pick him on a pitch without great pace and carry, he may actually be pretty vanilla. If he were to get that 145+ swinging full ball something he can send down on a whim, he'd probably never bowl another 10-over "luckless" spell for the Firebirds or Hutt District again in his life, but for now he seemingly has to ply his trade without any real mastery of that. So therefore what he really thrives on are those October-January FC pitches that are very hard, well-grassed and accommodating to getting up into the batsman's ribs at a very good clip.

Seems to be a problem with our guys who bowl rapid. Kuggs, Milne, Ferg...all struggle to really move the ball much. Stuff just comes down gun-barrel straight. And I guess Sears can be added to that list too. Don't know enough about Fisher or Zak Gibson (btw, has he gained any more pace after his U19 WC outings, and his stats aren't all that good of a read either).

Luckily, Lockie has overcome those shortcomings with intelligence and variations. Milne does have time on his side but the fragile nature of his body really is heartbreaking. Out of all mentioned, he is the only one I've seen who can swing it a wee bit. Really hope Kuggs is persisted with and given a run in the longer formats, he seems to more suited to them instead of the T20 stuff. But from what I've seen of him in T20's, his line is too easy to pick up and deposit over the leg side for a RH bat because of that angle he sends it down at. But he does seem a dangerous player to have in your side, especially with the aggressive hitting ability.

Really does make you realize what an elite talent Bond was. Swung the ball at 150 plus. In a league of his own. The things he could teach our current crop...

I like that we've been willing to give the 25-35 bracket opportunities. Elliott, cdg, o'brien, somerville, ajaz etc have all been good calls

Yes true, although the common fan isn't really going to be too enthused about Worker batting against Ireland next year. Yet in terms of sustained domestic white ball dominance, that is exactly who deserves the $15,000 or so the most.

It's just a bit of shame that our domestic T20 hasn't caught fire at all and so a Worker would clearly miss that sort of money and will probably lobby hard to get it, and thus the average age of all JAMODI and JAMT20 New Zealand teams may stay right up there near a worldwide high, like the Test team.

Sort of heavy enough bowling, but certainly no speedster.

Yeah, that doesn't seem quick at all. 3 years after that U19 WC I really expected him to be quicker than THAT. He's got a good build too, tall, athletic-looking, muscular....so this is a bit disappointing.
