***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2017/18

Moss

International Captain
Must admit I barely follow FC cricket, I usually just glance at scorecards without making much effort to join the dots, so this forum serves as a reasonable guide for me.

It's encouraging to see that pace bowling and wicketkeeping stocks are pretty good (even if none of the keepers is really the complete package, Blundell comes closest I suppose). Even spin bowling seems to be in a decent place (relatively). But the batting stats make for depressing reading. There's a big void to be filled when Taylor retires and if Worker is the next cab off the rank, well it's worrying. Finding it pretty perplexing that there seems to be no room for the U19 graduates (Ravindra, Allen, Bhula etc.), who might be expected to form the next gen. Hope that is rectified next season.

my NZ A (no test incumbents, no one about to imminently retire)

Hay
Cooper (I guess, not a good season for openers outside of Wellington and Hay. Cooper was ok)
Young (c)
Seifert
Bruce
Cleaver (wk)
Neesham
van Beek
Ferguson
Ajaz
Bennett

Neesham had a season of two halves - terrible first, good second. Logan van Beek and Ferguson were the stand out bowlers to me, and Bennett sneaks in despite a quieter end to the summer.

If you're not averaging under 20 with the ball this season then you're nowhere. Conversely, good year to stand out as a batsman. Only five guys averaging 50 or higher with the bat this time.

Off-topic I know, but nice to see Matt Henry carving it up for Kent in his first 2 matches. 19 wickets @ 7.52 to date, including 12-73 in his last outing vs. Durham.
