Good stuff Athlai. That is a pretty decent record. Given that we are always short of top order batsmen it's good when any of them who haven't already tried and failed perform well.
Actually I've noticed a lack of 'fast bowler watch' or 'opening batsman watch' like you've done other years - is that because we are just so awesome now that there are no glaring weakness in the NZ team? Yes imo
His Mrs got a good job in England and he chose to play there to support that.

Yeah we don't really have as many glaring holes as usual. We have a pretty settled top 5, Brownlie, Flynn, Broom and Franklin are all competing for the #6 position. While the pace bowling ranks have thinned to a few "boulters"Good stuff Athlai. That is a pretty decent record. The only position possibly up in the air is the keeper, and the pool is pretty narrow for that one. If Young fails one of van Wyk or de Boorder will likely step up.
Murdoch has probably done enough to be in contention with Watling and Nicol as a A Team top order batsman.

- Guptill and McCullum are not yet established. They look the best that we've had for ages and will surely get this whole season regardless of form. Still if one of them failed all summer we could be looking for another opener.
- Keeper, as you say. Though Young should get a decent run and would expect de Boorder to take over after. It's also impossible to assess keeping ability from scorecards!
- A second spinner. Vettori will not last for ever and his bowling fitness may lessen in the years before he retires. We will also tour the subcontinent again at some point. This could be quite a big problem seeing as no domestic spinner is consistently putting their hand up.
- I was going to say, looking at other teams, a genuine allrounder. But we already have one. We just refuse to use him as such.
