Westbrook's negatives are significantly more impactful than Lebron's positives...especially considering a frequently-injured Lebron...they were doomed the minute they decided to sign Westbrook, the added presence of Melo and some other over-the-hill "stars" just accentuates the effect...
yes agreed his presence has not been a huge detriment to the team so far...

He was acquired because he's friends with LeBron. His inability to play any defence is a massive detriment to the Lakers chances of winning games.
true, but their problems with defense this season go well beyond melo right? also he hasn't stunk it up as much as westbrook this season (so far)...

melo is on a small 1 year deal and the Lakers knew what they were getting for their money
They can afford to use him as a glorified cheer leader for the entire year if that’s what is needed
The real problem is that they also knew what they were getting with Russ and he’s on a massive, multi year deal which materially impacts upon their ability to make moves to improve their roster
