I'm pretty sure coaches and management tried to make him buy in on D when he was in Denver and New York. He just didn't want to. The only reason he looks committed there now is he knows his ass is out of the league if he doesn't.
edit: never mind he said the responsibility for melo's bad defense should be shared by his coaches...that's almost as bad a comment! he should know most ****ing superstars do exactly what they want to do and coaches can't do **** about it...having said that george karl was never a good defensive coach so in denver it was probably a case of what the doctor prescribed and what the patient wanted were exactly the same...
