Still wondering here too! Commentators don't mention a word about it. Ah now they do. Maybe the umpire thought it hit pad first.

The only contention here would be whether it was bat-pad, but even with the first replay there was a massive deflection. imo, that's the sort of decision that should go against the batsmen, leaving the onus on them to refer it if they think they smacked it into their legs.
