Maxwell averages 35 at a sr of nearly 130, gives you some handy overs and is a phenomenal fielder. His ODI batting numbers are better than most people's t20 batting numbers FFS. He's a freak, even if he gets out like an idiot sometimes.
It's innings like this that make his career even more disappointing tbh. He could have been anything. Could be going down as the ATG white-ball cricketer. Probably had a fantastic Test career as well.

I still think Inglis looks the most likely to contribute positively to the team but it could be worthwhile at least giving Carey a shot in the dead rubber just to see if he's had some kind of batting revelation over the last month
Don't think they'll change a keeper straight in to a knockout tbh

Maxi doesn't care about these jamodis and bilaterals, he only performs at the important stuff. He's not the hero we deserve but the hero we need 🦇

Yeah, see this is exactly my point. The guy is crazy talented. There haven't been many more pure strikers and guys with the ability to hit it to all parts from ball one (apart from the Pakistan game) like him. And he can bowl, and is an incredible fielder. But it feels like along the way he got bored, or at least he values the short-term records like highest innings, quickest hundred over the bigger career records and consistency.

Just think he can’t reign himself in from the tendency to hit out. I mean you see him defending, you can see how forcefully he is straining himself not to whack it particularly spinners

I've discussed his issues (or my opinions of them) here at length in the past. I think it's legit some kind of attention disorder

For me, if you look at how he used to hit the ball 5-6 years ago to now, it's completely different. The way he uses his wrists, the way he goes to the reverse so often...it's too low percentage. Ironically, though, his wrists saved his body today. Very few players in the world could've batted like him on one leg today (Ross Taylor, a former hockey player, being another who did it in his 180 v England) So yeah I feel like it's shot selection but even when he's hitting at the death, he seems to have changed his method - which was never really broken.

Probably true

Remember that one time in a t20 world cup (forgot which one it is probably the one played in Bangladesh) Smith started with a weird stance by standing way over the off exposing all three pegs and then he actually hit it for four. Everyone were like in awe of the shot and then the camera focused on to the aus dugout and Maxwell was there and like not reacting at all and all of a sudden realises he is on the camera and like started to act all amazed at Smith's shot

That one always stayed with me.

His stance has changed from four to five years ago to now (he crouches low now where he used to stand tall in the past) which probably makes it easier to play the reverse but the wrist work was always there tbh

Unless we are going back to his very early days like 10 years ago

Would've been cool if maxi broke Vivs record of highest run % out of team total. Missed it by 1%

Viv: 189/272 = 69.5%
Maxi: 201/293 = 68.6%

He’s an enigma wrapped up in a fur ball

Maxwell used to have a weakness against the short ball and probably still does

Rather than do a Steve Waugh & adopt a method to avoid it, he tried any number of ridiculous shots to keep scoring because he simply can’t help himself

The most surprising thing to me about this innings wasn’t that he got a massive score

It was that he didn’t give his wicket away on about 180 thereby leaving the tail to get Australia home

I just watched the package of every boundary he hit and I've never seen anything like what he was doing after he started cramping up. he looked like the batsman out of that old Test Match board game. Couldn't move at all and was just ****ing smiting it with his arms

If only I didn’t have work the next day, although chances are I would’ve gone to bed at 6/60 or whatever it was. The most wild innings of my lifetime.
