Haha, that's six out of six thrillers in a row for England. It was a game West Indies really shouldn't have lost. They needed twenty-two runs or thereabouts with four wickets in hand - you'd back a team to get that nine times out of ten. Very well done to England for holding their nerve and not losing their hands. England's move to pick Tredwell paid off; he was the perfect foil for Graeme Swann. Swanneh!

Questions will be asked of West Indies' batting order. While I wouldn't have shuffled the batting order in that manner (I always feel the best batsmen should get as many overs to bat as possible), it certainly was an interesting idea, one that almost worked. Not picking Chanderpaul was their biggest blunder. He has to play against India, preferably as an opener in Smith's place.

All said and done it was an entertaining game. An English victory means the group is still very much wide open.

But as mentioned above, West Indies was still a wicket away from number 11, all abilities considered.

BTW, where's the chap who was asking for fours and sixes off every ball? I haven't checked the stats but I'm pretty sure WI must have hit more of those than England.

Because Bell has been an ever present in this side, despite putting in absolutely no performances to justify it.
Still a class middle-order batsman who will probably come good at some stage (like he did against India). Good against pace as well as spin, and a very good fielder. What side would you pick?

And this result means that if Bangladesh win and India-WI is rained out, England are through...innit.
Nope, in that case WI and England would be tied on 7 points, both with 3 wins but WI would have a higher NRR meaning they go through and England go out....I think

Couldn't believe Sammy biffed his way to 40-odd runs despite seemingly having no trace of a technique.

Assuming fitness:

Strauss
Davies
Trott
Pietersen
Morgan
Bopara
Bresnan
Swann
Broad
Tredwell*
Anderson

*not 100% sold on Tredwell, but he's the man in possession and there's not really any good OD bowlers in England who can feel hard done by.

Yeah, probably a bit harsh on Bell, but he'd been dropped from the ODI side for ages, had a good return against Bangladesh and an excellent domestic OD season, missed the Pakistan series through injury and has since done nothing of any real note. He's certainly lucky that we've had so many injury woes, as IMO he's not in the side on merit.

Benn has a first class high score of 79, Roach 52* and Bishoo 39. OK Bradman they ain't but surely they could have mustered up 20 odd runs between them. But it shouldn't have got down to them, Sarwan and Russel should have finished it from the position they got to IMHO

Courtney Walsh had 8 first-class fifties. What's your point?
