Huge lol at the "Tired? Stresed?" gag.
Huge lol at the "Tired? Stresed?" gag.
Mmm can see where you're coming from but I still reckon it's pretty ****, particularly considering how little Ponting is contributing to the team other than being someone to to take inspiration from. We'd criticize a player if they played a rubbish shot under pressure, and frankly this kind of thing can be worse. Giving it to Smith by ignoring him while accepting congratulations from other team members is just **** man management, irrespective of whether the team needed it as a whole. If the team needs to pick up it's game that's definitely not the way to do it.Human cracks under pressure. Film at 11.
That he's previously been so sanctimonious about stuff like this is the only thing making it newsworthy for mine. It's a high-performance arena, **** happens. Remember Steve Waugh giving his players a spray years ago when they struggled to beat Scotland in a WC match and then giving them a serve in the presser afterward and there's AB's infamous spit at Craig McDermott, telling him to **** off home. It's definitely not the most constructive way to deal with such things but when you can see your team is switched-off, sometimes you need to crack the whip a bit. Will be forgotten quickly I reckon.
Thanks buddy.
It's fairly humiliating I suppose but I think Ponting had a fairly good reason.Does there really have to be more to it? I don't know that it's all that relevant either. He publically humiliated a teammate (and himself), especially a young up and comer like Smith. If there's a problem in the ranks it should manifest itself off field, not mid match, mid tournament. Absolutely pathetic leadership, especially when his lead by example nature is one of the things that has always eclipsed his tactical nous as a captain.
To be fair Ponting was shouting at Steve calling mine and he still ran into him. Those kind of things can really tick a captain off. Thanks buddy.
Hmm as for the incident, I don't really see what's going on. I mean why was he even angry at Smith in the first place? If it wasn't for any apparent reason, I wouldn't read too much into it. I reckon' he was just a bit annoyed with the performance, and that's understandable. And I think Smith understood that too, and that it was nothing personal. I'm sure might've even had a word or two back in the dressing room and everything was sorted out. I just don't see a big deal in it.
Fair enough. But that's what I'm saying, it's understandable as to why Ponting was a bit pissed off at that moment in time. These things happen on the field, and I wouldn't read too much into it. It's not as if he was yelling at Smith on the field after the catch was taken. With that said, Ponting could've handled it better and kept his cool, and I'm sure Smith's confidence took a beating at that moment. However, I'm sure it's all forgotten by now.To be fair Ponting was shouting at Steve calling mine and he still ran into him. Those kind of things can really tick a captain off.
it clearly wasn't just the 'collision' that bubbled Ponting over though. Australia were bowling **** houseThere is a time and a place to lose your temper at a teammate though. I've never seen someone do it because they bumped into a teammate who didn't hear a call, and that's happened a few times IIRC. The wicket got taken any way so his response was frankly utterly ludicrous. Especially because Ponting has not been a shining beacon in the field in this tournament. It's not like he looked at all unhappy when previous wickets were taken anyway.
I agree that they've all probably forgotten it now though. But you can see it put a real damper on the team, not just Smith, and that could prove very costly against better sides.
Aus media the one going on about it tbhIt's fairly humiliating I suppose but I think Ponting had a fairly good reason.
Indian media to blow it up in 3, 2, 1
haha, you have control over when you lose it? Damn Spark, do you even register a pulse mate? I could do with some of that sort of self-control.Yeah true, but that was hardly Steve Smith's fault was it? I mean, I can understand that he got a little pissed but there's a time and a place to let your frustrations boil over. And it's not like he showed his anger at a time when it would have been remotely constructive anyway.
You're probably right but he didn't word it that way.Nah he would apologised/got over it with Smith in the rooms you'd think
Amusing that he does not know the name of Canada's opener....
