King Kane

International Regular
A good review from England and a big wicket for them, not entirely convinced de Kock hit that though.

Yeah I would have had Livingstone in for Willey or Atkinson.

Uncharacteristically long tail from England with Moeen injured and Woakes/Curran dropped. Rashid is at 8 and he's good enough to bat there but he often ends up at 10/11 in this team.
came on to say just that, well not sure it is "uncharacteristic" as some of their 7-11 are not fantastic, short of having Ali, Livingstone, Buttler, Bairstow or Stokes there (#7) and getting a fifth bowler out of someone in the top 7 the batting has been thin and demonstrably so

England 7-11 this World Cup (combined runs/overs lasted in brackets)

vs NZL(73/16.2) : Livingstone 20, Curran 14, Woakes 11, Rashid 15no, Wood 13no
vs BAN (43/8.0) : Curran 11, Woakes 14, Rashid 11, Wood 6no, Topley 1no
vs AFG (72/19.5) : Curran 10, Woakes 9, Rashid 20, Wood 18, Topley 15no
vs SAF (TBC) : Willey, Rashid, Wood, Atkinson, Topley

highest score 20, 12 scores of double figures but 10s and 20s are what you want from 9-11 occasionally, England beat the deshis by virtue of Malan hundred, 296/2 building block, only two sides have chased down 280+ and Sri Lanka got to 300+ in a losing cause

Wood, Woakes and Curran for their bowling have returned 49.2 overs, 409 runs and 7 wickets, average 58.43, SR 50.86 and ER 6.89 . Not sure why anyone seriously expected any of them to perform in India, based entirely on what they have done elsewhere or on odd occasion, Curran and Woakes in "cos they can bat, innit" except in India it is somewhat different, failure to pass 15 for Curran says it all despite batting 7 and 8, Woakes equally poor, Wood long handle will only reach so far/last so long there before he's done up like a kipper

poorly thought out squad, got away with similar length tail in England because, well it was in England and surer footing for players like Woakes and his and others' bowling going to be more effective

You would really want Livingstone at 7 but is Willey really worse with the bat than Woakes and Curran?

When you factor in Stokes I don't think the batting is any worse overall.
Yes Willey was a 9/10 for us back when we had Plunkett.

He should have always been a top 6 bat. Completely wasted his talent.

Nah he's nearly a batsman specialist these days.
bowled I think 50.1 overs last World Cup, took 7 wickets. Should have long been used as an impact bowler in all formats, bar T20is which are barely long enough to do anything but short spell(s) 3-5 overs at a time in Tests, max, 5 overs max in any ODI and only if struggling for wickets.

What England had in 2019 was three bowlers who took 16+ wickets, on these surfaces I don't think any bar maybe Rashid and if he got his hits together Ali could get 16+

batting I think is weaker also, Roy out for Malan maybe fairly equal exchange, Morgan out for Brook has yet to be proven to be an upgrade in spite of one fifty in a losing situation
