Gawd. New Zealand crush Zimbabwe and Kenya but play like hacks against the good sides. Makes you wonder....

Off topic, but I agree with whoever said yesterday that Balaji Rao would have a chance of making Australia's side. Looks a very decent leggie to me.

That's how it works though. The better players of spin are the ones who are more aggressive, and seek to dominate the spinners as you say. But obviously that brings with it more risk, so you're going to get out a bit.

And then there's form. If you're having a mare, doesn't matter how good you are against pace, spin, whatever, you're going to have a bad time of it.
There is some truth to what you say - i have seen Clarke get out using his feet stumped and also trying to go over the top so that is a sign that he got out by being aggressive. However I have also seen Tendulkar get out playing a forward defensive shot.

I guess my point is that just observing players from around the world bat against spin very few players look completely at ease to me. And spinners take wickets against all countries and all batsmen.

He wouldn't make Australia's team in any format. If you phrased it slightly differently though and said he's a better bowler than any available Australian spinner I'd agree. Maybe.

Australia wouldn't pick him because:
a) they don't really like picking their best spinners
c) I get the feeling he might not meet fitness requirements

Disagree. He's decent, but way too inconsistent to make the step up.

Yeah, this is what I meant. Though I've only seen him bowl a grand total of 6 overs or so.

Plus that only applies to Tests, Doherty wouldn't have been a bad pick for our squad.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your theory, but I plain don't understand the criticism Guptill receives. He averages 36 in ODIs, which is perfectly acceptable (especially for a New Zealand batsman), he just fails to go on with starts a bit. I'm sure as he progresses in his International Career, he will go on to rectify that problem (somewhat).
AWTA.

With the right (Wright?) coaching and a little hard work he could be a future star for NZ. He certainly has the raw talent.

It's how we roll.

There's a master plan at work here. Why do you think we'd drop Mills (our best seam bowler) and replace him with How (our reserve wicket keeper who can't bat) in a game against Australia? Watch and learn...

You + Australian selectors = fat guy haters.

Out of all the test playing nations, I would rate New Zealand as the most efficient minnow bashers.
I think it is because we take the teams seriously. We kind of have to because if we don't play our best we will lose. The other top teams know they can put in a 60% effort and win. This attitude leads to mixed results.
