He is saying Ponting wasn't very sharp as a captain but is as a commentator and Vaughany was the opposite of that
Ahh makes sense. I never got the perception that ponting was a particularly poor captain, but it's all way before my time so can't really comment.

I think he's saying that Vaughan was perceived as being smart and Ponting less so, presumably baed on their respective captaincies in 2005. As it turns out, Vaughan is an intellectual black hole.
Yeah. Have a soft spot for Vaughan's batting but it's surprising that he was such a good captain. Doesn't seem a very bright bloke but confident.

he was seen as tactically not as good as the likes of Warne and Gilchrist and nothing more than a good man manager

I know shadab hasn't been very good but is this usama mir lad really any good? Averaging 35 with the ball coming into this game and has bowled one-two dreadful balls a game so far. Doesn't look very flash with the bat either. I remember him being gun in the t20 blast with bat and ball earlier this year so maybe he just needs some game time.

Not very good captaining the spinners in tests and prone to occasional brain farce like it was in the final test of 08 BG trophy when he took out main bowlers when the game was on the line aswell as the series

Great OD captain and a leader of men in general aswell

Ricky Ponting talking batting is arguably the most incisive commentary in world cricket. I don’t know why you’d reckon he’s a dud commentator tbh, but each to their own and all
Ponting's a very good commentator, no? Or am I missing the joke here?
Poor wording on my part. Vaughan was thought a smart captain, but is actually a worthless stupid troll. Ponting was thought to be a short tempered **** with not much going on upstairs, and he's actually pretty sharp and does try to be sympathetic to players even when he's blunt with them.
