I love all the talk about how we should have picked another specialist batsman as though we aren't already picking three who'd struggle to make another top 8 side. I'm sure Dawid Malan at 5 would have been the answer.

I think the criticism is more about leaving out established guys like Stokes and Buttler because apparently we wouldn't need them against Ireland.

It's a lot of cricket tbf that we've played and it was those two who did the business in the WC final so are probably, understandably a bit drained mentally. Buttler should have played tho imo, it's worth resting Stokes as he's not exactly shy from getting injured.

the selection was arrogant but i don't think the coach carries the can for the terrible techniques of his top 3

and this is genuinely quality bowling on a green deck from ireland. they're not numpties. root and bairstow can play.
