Obviously having a top order batsman specialist or a top bowler like Bumrah is crucial and important. But I'd argue as the T20 game continues to grow and develop, we continue to see the value of players who can do both to a high standard. All rounders are gold dust in this very short format of the game. Players like Narine, Jaedja and Russell will always be more important than a Kohli or a Bumrah in the T20 format.

Can someone explain why Malinga > Bumrah? I realise I’ve almost never bothered looking at T20 stats very closely before but prima facie the latter seems better particularly given where totals have headed over the years.

Sam Curran was far and away the best player in the last T20 world cup and won MVP award for his all round skills. Narine is far and away the player of the tournament this IPL for his all round skills. Bowlers only impact 24 balls (10%) of a 240 ball game. Cannot have bowlers as T20 GOATS. Fielding is also very important in T20 more so than other formats, good catching and throwing super important and I feel like this is an often overlooked aspect of a player's ability.

Sam curran got mots at the WC for his bowling. Pretty sure he didn't cross double figures with the bat the whole tournament.

he who can soar where others leap must necessarily cede to he who leapt where others crawled imho

Nice, fair enough

I think you should put economy rates as well though instead of averages because that's Bumrah's selling point

Bumrah's economy:
T20I's : 6.55
T20's : 6.98
T20 World Cups :6.41

Malinga's economy:
T20I's : 7.42
T20's :7.07
T20 World Cups : 7.43

Yep Bumrah is the more economical of the two where as Malinga gets more WPM , no wonder they won 4 IPL's together.

The Kohli SR question for T20 I’s is crazy. Better SR than Gayle and all. And ABD is the ipl GOAT, but poor numbers in internationals
