*Official* IPL 2019

This time out is so horrible. Moronic introduction to the league.

They should have just hooked up earpieces to the captain and the vice-captain and send them orders on what to do from the sidelines: Defensive coordinators.

Time outs are not for the players or coaches. Advertisements. More advertisements. Even more advertisements. etc.

Don't always agree with the guy, but Burgey is spot on regarding this. Ashwin trying to remain a relevant force basically. Fact is Kuldeep, Chahal and Jadeja are miles better than him, and he hasn't a hope of playing the WC. Might do now

Why on earth would you have to watch the ball out of the bowler's hand? Just watch the striker. If the ball is bowled it should be arriving at the on-strike batsman, then you can run. This way a really good ball stays a dot and the batsmen don't take advantage of the rules and squeeze a single out of it.
Yeah, I never leave the crease when playing at non-strikers end unless I see the ball in the air. It's no strain. Non-striker doesn't need to do jack anyway.

IPL threads are generally dead as a dodo on here. At least Ashwin's got CW talking about this event.

Ashwin has no chance (or in a sane world should have no chance) of playing the World Cup. Mankading or no Mankading.
He is also going to struggle to keep his place in the test XI. At home.

This is a forum choke-full of ODI junkies, now salivating at the thought of the World Cup.
There was no interest in the Afghanistan-Ireland test match; much less than the bit that was there for their ODI series.

Last couple of years, hardly anyone was paying attention to the IPL. Or maybe it was just me. BBL threads are generally much more active from my completely unscientific estimate.

Anyway, hopefully Pant and Shaw keep Delhi near the top this time. Will be a nice change from always seeing them propping up the table. Bowling looks mediocre though (not sure about Rabada's effectiveness on T20 roads).

No Mankading so far; this has been such a big let down. Who wants to see Rabada and Watson snarling at each other?

Watson is too good to be labouring away in T20 leagues. Shame.

Why the **** is Amit Mishra still a thing in 2019? Parthiv Patel too.

MCC:
yesterday’s incident could have been ruled out or not out, depending on how “the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball” is interpreted. Some feel that ashwin delayed his action to allow buttler the chance to leave his ground and that buttler was in his ground when he expected the ball to be released. If it was a deliberate delay, that would be unfair and against the spirit of cricket. Ashwin claims this not to be the case.

The tv umpire had to make a decision and, under the law (and indeed icc’s interpretation of them, which clarifies the expected moment of release as when the arm reaches its highest point), it was understandable how he opted to give buttler out.

Which is legalise for "with hindsight we think Ahswin's a liar, and acted against the spirit of cricket, but the 3rd ump made a different call on the day".
